Duties and Responsibilities

About UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Planning and Finance Section (PFS) is responsible to support urban and territorial planning at all scales including through the development of planning policy, norms and guidelines, urban design and public space design, urban regeneration, urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance), and local economic development. Reporting and Communication The Landscape Planning and Design Specialist will be hired to collaborate closely with Planning and Finance Section team. He/she will be reporting to the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team Lead. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team Lead, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: • Conducting research on nature-positive urban planning, green infrastructure development and monitoring needs of tracking urban SDG progress according to Park City Initiative’s work plan, and other technical inputs required by project team in supporting the project implementation. • Development of concept notes, talking points, event reports and other preparation materials for international events and potential collaborative activities required by the Public Space and Urban Regeneration Team. • Communicating and coordinating with relevant offices, teams, focal points within or beyond UN-Habitat for dissemination of project’s products. • Overall support to activities, including technical advice provided from the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team, as well as broader PFS and UN-Habitat initiatives.

Qualifications/special skills

Education and Experience An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Policy, Development Studies, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. At least 2 year of relevant work experience in the field of urban planning, urban design, landscape planning, ecological design is required Experience working with an International organization is desirable

Languages

Fluency both Oral and Written English and Chinese are required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable
