About the job:

Based in Mons, Belgium you will join the Agency at the heart of NATO’s cyber defence mission. You will become part of the NATO Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), NATO’s centre of technical expertise for cyber and principal provider of full lifecycle cyber security services.

The NCSC protects and defends NATO Communications and Information Systems through centralised, round-the-clock services, delivering capabilities in areas such as cyber security architecture, vulnerability assessment, malicious activity detection, threat hunting, incident response, cryptographic systems, penetration testing, red and purple teaming, and defensive cyber operations.

We are looking for two driven and enthusiastic Cyber Security Infrastructure Specialists (one senior and one mid-level) who will take on the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and maintain secure cyber security infrastructure in support of NATO’s mission-critical systems;

  • Identify security vulnerabilities and develop practical strategies, countermeasures and secure configurations to mitigate risks;

  • Monitor, assess and analyse security systems, supporting the detection, investigation and response to suspected attacks and security breaches;

  • Provide technical advice and guidance on security solutions, ensuring adherence to organisational policies, standards and risk assessments;

  • Translate stakeholder and functional requirements into effective technical solutions, system diagrams, engineering products and procurement support material;

  • Contribute to risk assessments, risk treatment plans, accreditation activities and the maintenance of records that support security decisions;

  • Support solution architecture activities in the area of cryptography, working closely with transformation, service transition and continuous service improvement teams;

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand their needs, resolve potential conflicts between user requirements and propose constructive courses of action;

  • Monitor emerging technologies and cyber security trends to help ensure NATO remains resilient against evolving threats.

We have two different roles available:

  • Cyber Security Infrastructure Specialist (G17) – 1 role; for a full list of duties, please review the job description on the NCIA career site; The pay scale is 8,273.12 EURO/ month.

  • Cyber Security Infrastructure Specialists (G15) – 1 role; for a full list of duties, please review the job description on the NCIA career site. The pay scale is 6,713.06 EURO/ month.

Note that internally the job titles are Senior Engineer (Crypto Validation) – G17 and Engineer (Crypto Validation) – G15.

About you:

The valuable knowledge and experience that you bring to this role are:

  • Bachelor’s degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a related discipline and 2 (for the Mid-level role) or 3 (for the Senior role) years related experience. Or exceptionally, the lack of a university degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate’s particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCIA, that is, at least 6 (for the Mid-level role) and 10 (for the Senior role) years extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the role;

  • At least 2/3 years practical experience of designing, implementing, and maintaining security infrastructure;

  • Practical experience identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities;

  • Extensive expertise in network security, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems;

  • Experience in the development of technical requirements, system diagrams and other engineering products to aid cybersecurity procurements and support;

  • Proven ability to deliver security capabilities to industry, government or military;

  • Recognised track record in dealing with stakeholders, understanding their needs, problems and requests and proposing constructive courses of action;

  • Proven experience in IT security consulting or in a similar role with demonstratable track record of delivering sizeable and complex IT security projects;

  • Proven experience designing and implementing security on major cloud platforms or enterprise networks;

  • Proven experience creating, testing, and implementing secure infrastructures;

  • Proven ability and desire to stay up to date with the latest security technologies and trends;

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with good presentation skills;

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
