The NATO Communications and Information Systems (CIS) Group plans, delivers and supports NATO’s Deployable Communication and Information Systems (DCIS) in order to enable command and control (C2) for NATO’s deployed HQs.
The J2/6 Division is the technical coordination authority for Deployable Communication Information Systems and is responsible for the operational integration, coordination, direction and provision of required technical services for the NATO Communications Information Systems Group and NATO Signal Battalions.
The Information Assurance and Cyber Defence Branch is the NCISG's coordinating authority for organizational security, Information Assurance (IA), Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) and Cyberspace Intelligence. It is also responsible for the planning, coordinating, operational integration, monitoring, assessing, and auditing of IA and Cyber Defence activities supporting Deployable Communications Information Systems (DCIS).
The Defensive Cyberspace Operations Section is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing all lifecycle management activities of Deployable Communication Information Systems Cyberspace Defence, and for providing guidance and coordinating Defensive Cyberspace Operations operational integration to the NATO Signal Battalions.
The incumbent will be responsible to support the operation of the Cyber Defense capabilities that are used to protect NATO mission networks, in close coordination with NCISG Subject matter experts in J2/6, the NATO Signal Battalions and NCIA.
Principal Duties
The incumbent's duties are:
- Provides technical support to the NCISG DCIS Cyber Defense capabilities.
- Configures the NCISG-provisioned DCIS Cyber Defense capabilities to support the required mission.
- Liaises with technical counterparts within NCISG, to ensure the interconnection and integration of the NCISG-provisioned DCIS Cyber Defense capabilities.
- Maintains operations and support documentation for the DCIS Cyber Defense capabilities.
- Supports adherence to the NATO security policies and standards.
- Updates the hardware and software configuration database for the DCIS CD capabilities.
- Maintains the configuration change log
- Ensures the Cyber Defense capability backups, are executed properly and periodically tests restoration procedures.
- Supports the maintenance of the NCISG-provisioned Cyber Defense Capabilities in accordance with the defined schedules.
- Monitors software license usage and supportssoftware license renewals.
Special Requirements and Additional Duties
This a mandatory deployment post. The incumbent may be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments, both within and outside NATO’s boundaries. Such operational deployment may exceed 30 days duration up to 183 days in any period of 547 days, and may be on short notice. For NATO International Civilian Staff, acceptance of an employment contract linked to this post constitutes agreement to deploy in excess of 30 days if required.
Essential Qualifications
a. Professional/Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience managing and administering Linux Operating systems
Minimum 2 years of experience managing and administering Microsoft Windows Server and Client Operating Systems.
Minimum 2 years of experience managing and administering hardware virtualization solutions
Minimum 2 years of experience installing, configuring and managing network devices.
Minimum 2 years of experience in networking.
Proven knowledge and practical experience in programming and/or scripting languages
Minimum 2 years of experience authoring documentation and in configuration management.
b. Education/Training
Higher Secondary education and completed higher vocational trainingin network engineering, computer science, information systems engineering or related disciplineleading to a formal technical or professional certification with 3 years function related experience, or Secondary education and completed advanced vocational trainingin that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 5 years post related experience.
c. Language
English - SLP 3333 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing).
Desirable Qualifications
a. Professional Experience
University degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Systems Management or related disciplines. Alternatively advanced vocational training that leads to a professional ICT qualification and 2 years of related work experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience as Security Engineer in a Security Operations Centre.
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Systems Administrator managing a large and diverse IT infrastructure.
Minimum 2 years of experience with VMWare vCenter and ESXi .
Minimum 2 years of experience in Cisco Next Generation Firewalls configuration.
Minimum 2 years of experience with Redhat Linux.
Minimum 2 years of experience supporting web applications.
Practical experience installing and configuring server equipment.
b. Education/Training
Cisco CCNA Routing & switching Certification
Cisco CCNA Security Certification
Security or equivalent Certification
Microsoft Certified Windows Server Administrator (or equivalent Windows Certification)
Redhat Certified Systems Administrator (or equivalent Linux certification)
Network or equivalent certification.

The technician must be willing to think out of the box and to challenge the way things are done, but at the same time he/she must be thoughtful and considerate to NCISG colleagues and team members. The technician must be result-oriented, efficient and assertive but at the same time tactful and respectful to others.

There are no reporting responsibilities.
Contract
The successful candidate will fill this post as a Project Linked NATO International Civilian (PLN) with a three-year definite duration contract within the NATO 2030 Agenda. On expiry of this term the PLN will be deleted or absorbed into the ceiling pending approval or will exceptionally be considered for extension.
The salary will be the basic entry-level monthly salary defined by the NATO Grade of the post, which may be augmented by allowances based on the selected staff member’s eligibility, and which is subject to the withholding of approximately 20% for pension and medical insurance contributions.
