Role Summary 

Lead and implement integrated mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities within the Ebola outbreak response, ensuring psychosocial support is embedded across surveillance, case management, risk communication and  and community interventions. The role ensures quality services addressing stigma, stress reactions, grief and healthcare worker wellbeing. 

Project Overview 

Ebola outbreak has been declared on 15th of May 2026 in Ituri province. Medair is planning to implement specific pillars of the response to the outbreak, including Infection Prevention control, Case Management, Surveillance, Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE), with particular integration of MHPSS into Case Management and RCCE. Medair and local partners have existing health programming in the project area.  

Workplace & Conditions 

Bunia, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, with travel to field locations.  

Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning, implementation and quality oversight for MHPSS integration within the Ebola outbreak response project across project sites, ensuring alignment with international, national, and Medair standards.  
  • Train  and mentor staff and local partners in Psychological First Aid and other MHPSS approaches to support suspected/confirmed Ebola patients and families, community members, and frontline healthcare workers.  
  • Establish and strengthen systems of peer support, including within Ebola Treatment Center.  
  • Create tools and training materials to support implementation of MHPSS within different intervention pillars, update capacity-building tools as Ebola outbreak response evolves, collaborating with technical advisors.
  • Monitor quality and impact of activities, ensure timely reporting to Ebola Project Coordinator, contribute to reports and proposals, support budget management, support ongoing strategy development.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:  

  • Degree in psychology, (global) mental health, social work or related field, Master's degree strongly preferred. Clinical licensure in relevant discipline desirable.  Experience in emergency/outbreak settings highly desirable. Experience in Ebola response is desirable and an asset.  
  • 3 years’ experience in managing programmes in international MHPSS work, with at least 1 year in humanitarian emergency context.  
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, Sphere and IASC Standards and other international humanitarian guidelines and protocols.  
  • Experience in the design, monitoring of implementation and evaluation of community-based MHPSS programs  
  • Strong working knowledge of French (spoken and written).
