About the Unit
GCS Corporate Services' (GCSCS) mission is to support the World Bank Group's strategic agenda by delivering high-quality corporate services to WBG VPUs and individual staff, enhancing effectiveness and efficiency through stronger integration, streamlined processes, and largely outsourced to external vendors. GCSCS seeks to obtain the best overall value for the WBG while promoting innovation and socially and environmentally sustainable practices.
GCSCS is structured into four main divisions: (I) Travel and Staff Services; (II) Innovation and Client Solutions; (III) Global Business Centers; and (IV) Integrated Business Services.
GCS Integrated Business Services (GCSBA) provides services in the areas of Translation and Interpretation, Graphic Design, Publications, Printing, Photography, Video, AR/VR, and Cartography.
The Translation and Interpretation Unit (GCSTI) facilitates communication between the World Bank Group (WBG) and its member governments, institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The selected candidate will contribute to the Russian and Uzbek language program, reporting to the Team Leader under the general oversight of the GCSTI Senior Program Manager.
Duties and Accountabilities
1. Interpretation
  • Provide accurate and seamless consecutive, simultaneous, and whisper interpretation for WBG representatives and staff in meetings, conferences, and field settings.
  • Maintain impartiality and adhere to WBG interpretation standards at all times.
  • Travel on mission with Bank teams as required.
2. Translation
  • Translate documents across a variety of subject areas from source languages into the primary language, ensuring technical accuracy and stylistic appropriateness for the intended audience.
  • Conduct terminological research to support consistency and quality.
  • Maintain and update Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools and terminology databases.
  • Apply machine translation and AI‑assisted language technologies within WBG‑governed platforms to support scalable, secure translation delivery, ensuring that all outputs meet institutional quality, confidentiality, and style standards.
  • Perform professional post‑editing, quality assurance, and terminological validation of AI‑ and MT‑generated content, exercising expert linguistic judgment and accountability for final deliverables.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of GCSTI language technologies by providing structured feedback on output quality, usability, and workflow integration, and by supporting unit‑wide adoption in line with established guidelines.
3. Project Coordination and Quality Assurance
  • Assist with the full lifecycle of translation requests, including scheduling, vendor coordination, and timely delivery.
  • Recruit, onboard, and monitor freelance language vendors; maintain the local Country Office (CO) Roster.
  • Conduct quality reviews of vendor output and provide performance evaluations.

Selection Criteria

Required
  • Education: Master's degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree combined with substantial professional experience in technology‑enabled translation and interpretation workflows may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
  • Experience: Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in translation and/or interpretation, with demonstrated experience working in technology‑enabled language service environments.
  • Proven hands‑on experience with machine translation post‑editing (MTPE), terminology management, and quality assurance in institutional or large‑scale translation settings.
  • Language Proficiency: Native-level proficiency in Russian and English (written and spoken).
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with CAT tools, terminology platforms, and Microsoft Office. Practical experience using secure, enterprise‑approved AI‑assisted language tools for drafting, post‑editing, and quality review, with a strong understanding of confidentiality, risk controls, and institutional standards.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment; strong problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred
  • Native-Level proficiency in Uzbek.
  • Experience coordinating language services or translation projects in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with SDL Trados, Plunet TMS, CMS, and/or Workfront.
  • Experience post-editing machine translation output (MTPE) and working with neural MT platforms.
  • Exposure to AI-driven language workflows, including the use of LLM-based tools for translation support, automated quality estimation, or terminology management.
