Mission and objectives

Context

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

FAO Country Offices, working under overall corporate guidance and in line with the Strategic Framework, offer policy advice and support to countries in the mandated areas of FAO, facilitated through partnerships, resources and an active country program to provide technical assistance, develop capacities and deliver core services while fully observing international standards of accountability to establish leadership and strengthen impact at the country level.
The offices deliver on the programmatic priorities of each country as agreed in their respective Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and ensure effective and efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.

Specifically, FAO Country Offices:
i advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAO’s mandate;
ii provide technical assistance and deliver core services;
iii assist and catalyze partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation;
iv Position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation;
v ensure risk-smart and accountable operations and management.

Task description

Under overall supervision of FAO Representative in Nepal, the direct supervision of AFAOR (Programme) and M&E Specialist, in close collaboration of the program team, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:

• Assist in the preparation, updating, monitoring, and reporting of project’s log frame and M&E frameworks.;
• Collect, consolidate, and track project progress, achievements, challenges, risks, and actions for management meetings, internal and external reporting, and program reviews on a quarterly basis or as required.
• Assist the M&E specialist to collect monthly delivery plan from projects and prepare consolidated delivery plan to prepare replenishment request of CO.
• In coordination with concerned officials, collect the updates, issues, challenges along with actions of FAO operationally active and pipeline projects for FAO Program Management Team Meetings, FAO Nepal All Staff Meetings, project PTF meetings and other CO meetings.
• Closely monitor the status of ongoing & pipeline projects in the FAO systems (eg FPMIS, KMS, IMIS) and take necessary actions as needed to sort out the issues.
• Maintain and update project monitoring databases, indicator tracking systems, beneficiary records, and other M&E information management systems.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of monitoring tools, data collection instruments, reporting templates, dashboards, and other M&E resources for programs, clusters and projects.
• Participate in field monitoring visits, data verification exercises, and validation of project results and reported achievements.
• Support the documentation and dissemination of project achievements, innovations, best practices, lessons learned, and knowledge products, and perform other duties as assigned.
• Any other related tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
