Your team

Within the Office of the Director General, the Strategy, Engagement and Institutional Relations (SEIR) Unit reports directly to the Director General and plays a key role in shaping and coordinating the Agency’s strategic direction and external engagement. SEIR is responsible for managing strategic initiatives, institutional relations, corporate communications (both internal and external), and the Agency’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) portfolio, with the aim of strengthening EUROCONTROL’s influence, coherence, and positive impact across the aviation sector.

Translators are assigned to Institutional Relations, which manages EUROCONTROL’s stakeholder relations, supports governance and outreach, and ensures accurate internal and external communications, including translating documents in all official Agency languages, proofreading, interpretation, and providing terminological support to internal and external translators, interpreters, and stakeholders.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Process requests for proofreading and translation into English using the Language Service's translation management tool, confirming (formatting) requirements and deadlines, and seeking clarification where necessary to ensure timely delivery.
  • Translate into English administrative, legal, financial and technical documents drafted in French or other languages of the Organisation’s Member States in subject areas related to the missions of the EUROCONTROL Organisation and the internal operation of its Agency.
  • Simplify and proofread complex documents, often drafted by non-native speakers of English, to ensure clarity, accuracy and accessibility for a wide audience.
  • Revise the translations of fellow team members and external providers.
  • Assist translators from other language teams in understanding complex texts written in English.
  • Maintain multilingual databases and glossaries to ensure consistency and accuracy in translations.
  • Actively contribute to optimising workflows and the use of AI tools and technology in the Language Service.
  • Provide linguistic advice and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Administer language testing in English for new recruits, as required.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Candidates must fulfil one of the following requirements:
    • Completion of third level studies in a relevant domain (e.g. translation or modern languages) meeting EQF Level 7 followed by at least 3 years of relevant professional experience or
    • Completion of third level studies in a relevant domain (e.g. translation or modern languages), meeting EQF Level 6 followed by at least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
    European Qualifications Framework (EQF) .
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of CAT tools and experience with machine translation and AI tools (proficiency in the use of Trados Studio would be a significant asset).
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of standard office applications and internet-based search tools.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular role, candidates must have a perfect command of English (C2 – mother tongue or equivalent) and be proficient users of French at level C1. Proficiency in other European languages, in particular German or Dutch, would be a significant asset.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • The selected candidate will be appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Staff regulations governing officials of the EUROCONTROL Agency.
  • Conditions depending on current type of appointment
    Internal staff appointed for a determined period
    • Retain their current type of appointment duration.
    • Continue under their existing appointment duration, as appointment durations are not cumulative.
    • The duration of their appointment will therefore not restart upon selection to the new post, i.e. the remaining duration of their current determined appointment continues to apply.
    • Renewal(s): This appointment may be renewed several times, but its total duration, including all renewal periods, may not exceed nine (9) years.
    • Conversion: Conversion to an undetermined duration appointment is possible where all of the following cumulative conditions are met: the post is confirmed as being of a lasting nature; the staff member has completed at least five years of service; the staff member’s performance has been satisfactory; and the conversion is in the interests of the service. Conversion is therefore not automatic.

    • Retain their current type of appointment duration.
    At the end of the 5 Year period of the post for which they were selected:
    • If the assignment is extended, they will continue in the post in accordance with the applicable rules.
    • If the assignment is not extended and/or the duties are not confirmed as being of a lasting nature, they will be transferred to another post corresponding to their “previous” type of post, job level, and function group.
  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
  • The selected candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
