Overview of position

The incumbent of this position will be the convoy leader of our clients trucks and will be responsible for organizing, planning and supervising convoys of heavy trucks transporting goods in the form of food and non-food items in all the different localities of the Republic of Haiti in accordance with the procedures and normative guidelines, as established by our client.

Role objectives

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet and Garage Manager, the incumbent of this position is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Assume responsibility, provide leadership and guidance to our clients heavy truck drivers under the convoy.

  • Be responsible for telecommunications and the use of HF and VHF radio and Thuraya communications to inform the fleet manager of the progress and position of the convoy on an hourly basis.

  • Ensure that all drivers perform their duties and responsibilities in accordance with their job description.

  • Be responsible for any safety issues that may arise and always decide on the safest option for the convoy and use good judgment to ensure safe passage.

  • In the event of a breakdown along the way, decide on the best course of action to take to troubleshoot the vehicle in the safest and fastest way without potential damage caused by this exercise.

  • Ensure that sufficient funds are available to unload the cargo.

  • Perform a daily inspection of the vehicle and ensure that it is in good mechanical condition and report any problems or defects to their immediate supervisor.

  • Ensure that all trucks in the fleet under direct responsibility are thoroughly cleaned and maintained in good mechanical condition.

  • Ensure that truck logbooks are completed daily and in a timely manner and without errors.

  • Ensure that trucks are always refueled on time and ensure that all fuel consumption is maintained within the parameters established by our client.

  • Ensure that originally loaded cargo is transported safely to the destination without contamination, loss or damage, and will assist with the loading with the tally clerk and ensure the signing and approval of the waybill at destination.

  • Held responsible for all trucks and any tools or equipment given to drivers (and signed for) and ensuring they remain in good condition.

  • Ensure that trucks are loaded (metric tons) in accordance with the established payload and never exceed this limit. Cargo must be loaded evenly and distributed equitably for safety reasons.

  • Ensure that drivers always drive safely and responsibly with the necessary respect and attention to other vehicles.

  • While trucks are in the garage, ensure that drivers can assist with repairs and maintenance activities if necessary.

  • Must immediately report to the supervisor and/or other parties involved, any accident that may occur.

  • Must ensure that trucks will only go to the authorized destination and load only authorized goods, under no circumstance must they deviate from it unless authorized to do so by the fleet manager.

  • In case of emergency, he will perform tasks identical to those of a driver.

Project reporting

This role will work under the direct supervision of the Fleet and Garage Manager

Key competencies
  • Have a national identity card.

  • Submit a detailed Curriculum Vitae.

  • Provide a blank certificate of good conduct and morals.

  • Hold a valid driving license for heavy vehicles.

  • Proof of a minimum of seven (5) years' experience in driving heavy trucks.

  • Have a good level of spoken and written French.

Team management

This role has no team management responsibility.
