The Scope

The Coordinator for Eastern Africa is a senior leadership role responsible for driving FSC’s strategic growth, policy alignment, and stakeholder engagement across Eastern Africa. The coordinator ensures that FSC’s priorities in the sub-region are aligned with continental and global strategies, while delivering measurable impact in forest management certification, brand visibility, and partnership development.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead regional strategy, annual planning, budgeting, and performance tracking aligned with global FSC objectives.
  • Act as FSC’s primary representative in Eastern Africa, engaging governments, private sector, NGOs, and communities.
  • Drive expansion of Forest Management certification and support measurable conservation outcomes.
  • Oversee FSC-funded projects, ensuring delivery of verified impact claims and reporting against KPIs.
  • Build strategic partnerships and lead fundraising through donor proposals and funding mechanisms.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing regional team, setting targets and fostering collaboration.
  • Support awareness campaigns, media engagement, and growth in certification uptake and brand presence.
  • Facilitate multi-stakeholder processes for development and revision of national forest standards.
  • Maintain strong relationships with certificate holders, support compliance, and reduce attrition.
  • Manage complaints, disputes, and ensure adherence to FSC policies, including EUDR alignment.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, Development, Business, or related field.
  • 8–10 years’ experience in forestry, sustainability, or natural resource management, with senior coordination exposure.
  • Strong understanding of Eastern African forestry landscapes, policies, and stakeholders.
  • Proven success in building multi-sector partnerships and securing donor funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and manage cross-cultural environments.
  • Excellent English communication; ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with FSC systems, certification standards, EUDR, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Strong track record in delivering projects, managing budgets, and achieving measurable impact.
  • Experience working with governments, communities, NGOs, and private sector actors.

The Fine Print

  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya / or remote in Eastern Africa with regional travel
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Contract: Service and Licence Agreement.
  • Duration: 2 years (extension possible).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
