Student Assistant- Vocational Training (Skill Up!)*
in Bonn
The position is to be filled by 15 September 2026, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany. You will work 20 hours/week, to enable you to continue your qualification within the framework of your current studies. Mobile work within Germany is possible in agreement with your team. 100% mobile work is not possible. The position is remunerated with 15 Euro per hour.
Since 2015, Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has focused on vocational education and training, particularly in regions where such opportunities are scarce. The cross-country program “Skill Up!” strengthens the employability of young people and facilitates their entry into the job market. The Vocational Education portfolio is part of the Sector Strategy, Knowledge and Learning Unit, which continuously improves program work.
As a student assistant, you will support the team in further developing the Skills Development area. A particular focus of this position will be supporting the coordination and implementation of the global Skill Up! program and the preparation of its next phase, Skill Up! 2030. Your tasks include research and analysis of trends in skills development and employment promotion, as well as fostering knowledge transfer and exchange between colleagues worldwide, including through the maintenance of the MS Teams platform and management of the digital knowledge library. You will work closely with other departments and gain a comprehensive understanding of WHH’s activities.
Your responsibilities
- Administrative and organizational support for the preparation and roll-out of the new Skill Up! 2030 program phase.
- Research, analysis, and data evaluation on topics related to vocational education/skills development, including the compilation and cataloging of various literature sources (academic articles, newsletters, policy frameworks, etc.) as well as useful thematic links for our knowledge library.
- Conceptual and logistical support in the planning, organization, and execution of meetings, strategy retreats, workshops, and multimedia events.
- Assistance in managing and maintaining virtual networks and collaboration platforms (e.g., MS Teams or whiteboard tools like Miro).
- Updating and maintaining internal thematic pages (website updates, content creation support).
- Proactive (technical) support for colleagues in accessing and using virtual collaboration tools.
- Designing publications and creating presentations.
- Performing additional support tasks within the Skills Development portfolio as needed.
Your profile
- You are currently enrolled at a university or college, ideally in a field relevant to the position (International Development, Geography, Social Sciences, Economics, Educational Sciences, or a related discipline).
- Ideally, you have already gained some initial (work) experience in the field of development cooperation.
- You have basic experience in research and data analysis (e.g., using Excel) and possess strong analytical skills.
- You have a strong interest in skills development, employment promotion, and adult education.
- You have excellent IT skills, particularly in MS Office applications such as MS Teams and PowerPoint; experience with data collection and survey tools is desirable.
- You enjoy working in a team, have strong communication skills, and an open-minded personality. You thrive in intercultural environments and enjoy working with people.
- You can understand complex topics, break them down, and summarize them in a clear and concise manner.
- A structured working style and the ability to systematically complete tasks and conduct research independently distinguish you.
- You have excellent English language skills, both written and spoken. Good French and German skills are desirable.
