Forestry Officer Latvia and Lithuania (m/f/d)
The Scope
FSC International is currently looking for a FSC Forestry Officer for Latvia and Lithuania that will operate in these countries and support the forest related activities and projects in close cooperation with relevant local stakeholders from the forestry sector, public, private and NGO sector. The FSC Forestry Officer will support all forest management and forest-based supply chain related issues, contributing to growing the FSC certified area in Latvia and Lithuania.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
Forest Management Development and Growth:
- Support the National Representative (NR) in the development and implementation of the Forest Management strategy for Latvia and Lithuania;
- Maintain a pipeline of certification opportunities (state forests, private enterprises,
- associations of smallholders)
- Support assessment of the impact of FSC in forest stewardship and supply chains in Latvia and Lithuania and communicate this to target audiences;
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation:
- Engage with relevant stakeholders such as Forest Managers, Certification Bodies, forest industry associations, trade unions, relevant government bodies for the improved implementation of relevant FSC standards;
- Represent and support organizing FSC in relevant conferences and meetings;
- National roll out and promotion of FSC International tools related to forest management incl. translation of relevant materials, conducting webinars and trainings for Latvian and Lithuanian stakeholders, responding to enquiries;
Standards, Policies and Technical Support:
- Provide technical guidance both to existing and potential Certificate Holders, as well as to the Certification Bodies;
- Engage in the development and revision of FSC standards ensuring that sub-regional stakeholders are informed and invited to engage at the appropriate times;
Internal Coordination and Reporting:
- Attend and represent Latvia and Lithuania in FSC International relevant forums including the Forest Management Community, annual staff meeting, regional meetings, webinars, etc.
- Analyse and manage internal and external forest related data for the Baltic region.
- Any other tasks as agreed with the FSC National Representative for Latvia and Lithuania.
Your profile
- University degree in silviculture, forestry, forest and/or supply chain management or an equivalent combination of education/vocational training and work experience relevant for the roles and responsibilities of this function.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Sound understanding of the scope of FSC’s programs and activities, policies, and standards.
- A practical understanding of FSC standards, in particular forest stewardship standards and risk assessments and their impacts on the Baltic forest sector and forest managers.
- Service-oriented attitude to work, as well as a strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
- Understanding of the forest products and services value chains needs and market forces.
- Good time management skills: ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several functions.
- Ability to work independently and to achieve agreed objectives.
- Fluency in Latvian and/or Lithuanian (spoken and written), knowledge of both would be an advantage.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Good skills in the use of standard software packages (MS Office).
