Mission and objectives
Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministries of Justice and Institutional Reform of the Transitional Government of Gabon have signed a partnership agreement for a project entitled Promoting accountable, effective, and inclusive justice sector in Gabon. Its aim is to strengthen independent and transparent institutions through a comprehensive reform of the justice sector in Gabon. In addition, the partnership aims to improve access to justice and respect for human dignity. The project will develop and implement citizen-centered justice mechanisms, promote transparency and a more efficient justice system, using a people-centered approach to justice and other innovations developed by UNDP.
The objectives of this projet are to support Gabon to reform its judicial and rule of law institu-tions by addressing the shortcomings identified in the Gabonese judicial system. The project aims to boost initiatives already undertaken by the Committee for the Transition and Restora-tion of Institutions (CTRI) through three main fundamental axes that will carry out a series of reorganizations in favor of the justice sector, to make it more efficient, accountable, and fair. Specifically, this will involve (1) Enhancing justice access though the construction and reha-bilitation of justice infrastructure (2) Strengthening the competence, integrity, and reliability of the system with in-depth capacity building of judicial staff and digitalization processes and (3) contribute to the national transition with stronger rule of law and democratization pro-cesses.
