ABOUT THE ROLE
Transparency International is currently seeking a Media and Communications Manager (m/f/d) to join our Communications team and lead the organisation’s press office function. The role combines developing strategy with hands‑on delivery, supporting Transparency International’s influencing priorities and boosting its reputation in a complex global media environment.
This role also line manages Communications and Media Specialists, supporting their development and day‑to‑day work, and working closely with them to deliver joined‑up media and communications activity that strengthens influencing campaigns and builds public engagement.
The Media and Communications Manager works closely with the Head of Communications and with colleagues across the organisation, ensuring high standards, political sensitivity and consistency across media outputs. This role would suit an experienced media and communications professional with at least seven years of relevant experience, who is motivated to use their expertise to strengthen Transparency International’s influencing work and help drive positive change.
OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS
Role Purpose: The Media and Communications Manager (m/f/d) provides expert advice on organisational media strategy, leads the press office function and line manages Communications and Media Specialists to deliver high‑quality media and communications activity in support of Transparency International’s brand, influencing and engagement goals.
Team: Communications.
Band: PF3
Reporting Line: Head of Communications.
Starting Date: November 2026.
Contract Duration: We offer an initial fixed-term contract of two years. There is a prospect of extension subject to organisational need, performance and funding.
Salary Band: According to TI‑S internal salary structure; this position is aligned with band PF3, with a salary range of EUR 55.600–75.000 gross per year. Final salary placement will be determined based on the number of years of relevant professional experience.
Working Hours: full time [100%; 40 hours per week]
Location: Hybrid within Germany. All staff are required to spend a minimum of four days a month in our office in Berlin.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE
As part of the Communications Team and reporting to the Head of Communications, the Media and Communications Manager will:
- Lead the press office function, overseeing planning, workflows, processes and tools to ensure consistent, high‑quality media engagement and outputs
- Design and deliver an insights‑led media strategy in support of organisational brand, influencing and engagement goals, aligned with wider communications objectives
- Provide line management to Communications and Media Specialists, including workload planning, coaching, performance management and professional development
- Lead media responses to manage organisational reputation, including assessing risk, advising on approach, developing reactive lines and delivering crisis communications
- Advise programme and advocacy colleagues on media approaches, and design and deliver strategic media activity to support campaigns, thought leadership and key research outputs (e.g. the Corruption Perceptions Index)
- Collaborate with chapters across the Transparency International movement, advising on media responses to emerging threats and reputational risks and identifying opportunities for collective impact
- Be responsible for media monitoring, analysis and reporting, using insights to inform strategy and decision‑making
- Keep abreast of the global media landscape, identifying proactive and reactive opportunities to position Transparency International effectively
- Design and deliver media training and guidance, supporting spokespeople to prepare for interviews and providing constructive feedback
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the Communications team, including supporting planning, coordination and deputising for the Head of Communications as required
CANDIDATE PROFILE
In order to succeed in this role, candidates will ideally bring:
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in media and/or strategic communications, including developing organisational media strategies and managing reputation
- Practical experience managing a press office function, including overseeing workflows, processes, monitoring and reporting, and working with media tools and suppliers
- Experience line managing or providing structured guidance and oversight to communications professionals
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English, to native speaker level, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear and compelling media narratives
- Excellent news judgement and knowledge of global and regional media landscapes and relevant press contacts
- Experience advising on reputation management and crisis communications
- Experience designing and delivering media training and supporting spokespeople
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Political awareness, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work diplomatically and sensitively in an international context
