UNODC's mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
Context
The position is located within the Indian Ocean East team of the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), based in Male, Maldives, within the UNODC Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA). The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer of the GMCP Indian Ocean East (IOE) , and direct supervision of the National Programme Officer, both based in Male, Maldives. Overall guidance will be provided by the Regional Programme Coordinator of the GMCP IOE.
Task description
The National Community UNV- Event Coordination and Communications Support Assistant will undertake the following tasks:
• Assist the GMCP Indian Ocean East team in Maldives in effective liaison and communications, ensuring flow of information to internal and external stakeholders through coordination, preparation and circulation of regular updates, newsletters, reports, briefs and other written outputs to ensure visibility of the Programme, in line with any donor visibility requirements;
• Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, briefing notes, speeches, position papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc., relating to maritime crime issues, in collaboration with the substantive team;
• Support the research and collation of information on maritime crime and its impact in Maldives and/or the Indian Ocean, as required;
• Provide technical and logistical support to the GMCP team in Maldives with regard to consultative and other meetings, workshops, conferences, training sessions, missions, etc., including preparing background documents and presentations, drafting meeting minutes, etc.;
• Provide coordination support in securing nominations for UNODC events, communicating with nominated participants, following up on any queries, organizing and coordinating filing and maintaining of mailing lists;
• Assist the GMCP National Programme Coordinator and Programme Officer in Male with technical and logistical processes related to the procurement of equipment and services and recruitment of experts, including support on the preparation of terms of reference, monitoring and follow-up on related payment requests, along with relevant administrative personnel, in line with UN financial rules and regulations;
• Perform any other duties as required/assigned.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
As an active UNODC GMCP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNODC GMCP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
• Provision of well researched and sound analysis of issues and developments affecting programme/project implementation, and regional maritime cooperation, etc.
• Provision of thorough, timely, well-reasoned written technical and administrative products.
• Effectively, and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and counterparts internally and externally;
• Provision of technical and administrative support to activities implemented under the programme in Bangladesh and in the IOE, including procurement, preparation of workshops and training sessions, reception of participants, note-taking, support to human resources processes, and coordination with participants to ensure nominations, attendance, and travel arrangements in line with UN financial rules and regulations.
Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;
A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
