The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
- have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
- are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
- are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.

Background Information
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society, and private sector counterparts.
The mission’s Protection and Border Governance Unit (PBGU) collaborates with national and international partners to address migration challenges, strengthen border management systems, and safeguard the rights and well-being of migrants. Through research, policy interventions, capacity-building and outreach, these projects aim to develop sustainable solutions to reduce systemic vulnerabilities and to provide increased support to vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, internally displaced persons, refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and exploited and abused migrants.

In addition, IOM provisions a protection and assistance to vulnerable and stranded migrants, assistance for voluntary return, as well as the reintegration of migrants through a wide range of services, in line with IOM’s integrated approach to reintegration. This includes reintegration counselling as well as economic, social and psychosocial assistance at the individual, collective and community levels.
Responsibilities
Supervision
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager, and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Assistant in Bangkok, the Intern – Protection Data Analysis who will support the implementation of protection activities in Thailand
- Support in maintaining beneficiary profiles and needs assessments, through collecting vulnerability data, document and filing case records in IOM internal database in accordance with IOM Data Protection Principles.
- Develop dashboards and analytical briefs (e.g., trend analyses and disaggregation by vulnerability, location, and assistance type) to inform case management and protection decision‑making, ensuring anonymization and adherence to the IOM Data Protection Principles.
- Assist with the administration of surveys to assess level and progress of in-kind assistance and referral services.
- Assist in data clearing and preparing monthly data statistic on assistance to vulnerable migrants and voluntary return and reintegration.
- Assist the project team to complete monthly monitoring tracking data.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
- Build knowledge of protection data management by supporting needs assessments, data collection, and case record management in line with IOM Data Protection Principles.
- Strengthen data analysis and visualization skills by developing dashboards and analytical briefs.
- Enhance data collection, cleaning, and reporting skills.
- Develop understanding of migration protection programming in an international environment and gain exposure to IOM’s work with migrants and partners
Training Components and Learning Elements
- The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
- Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
- Gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of Migration, and work on formulating and editing institutional strategies, priorities and workplans.
- The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM personnel.
- The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions.
Qualifications
Education
Applicants must satisfy one of the following educational criteria:
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in social work, law, international relations, political science, social science or other relevant area from an accredited institution; OR
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or graduated within the last 12 months with a Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, law, international relations, political science, social science or other relevant area from an accredited institution.
Experience
- Data collection, analysis and reporting (collect, clean, organise and analyse datasets to produce clear insights for reporting and decision-making);
- Having working experience on Counter-trafficking interventions and/or data management will be considered an asset;
- Working and/or studying in a multi-cultural environment and demonstrated capacity to respect diversity.
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure responsible data handling is mandatory;
- Proven understanding of migration dynamics and of vulnerabilities experienced by migrant populations;
- Demonstrated knowledge of information technology and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Publisher, and SharePoint.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes
Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
