About this position

We are looking for a consultant to support the group in its ongoing efforts to materialize and deepen an active dialogue with sector authorities, donors, companies, and partners from other sectors to optimize the social, environmental, and economic performance of the sector.

You will work in the Energy Division (ENE) part of the Infrastructure (INE) department. The Mining Group has the operational responsibility to provide technical and financial assistance to the mining sector in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and to generate knowledge about it.

What you’ll do

  • Support the agenda in specific countries, including issues related to institutional strengthening, territorial development, innovation, and value chains.
  • Respond to different demands related to the mining sector and related fields by providing mining knowledge, with a focus on critical minerals.
  • Deepen active dialogue with the different stakeholders—government, civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and multilateral organizations—operating in the sector to promote investments that increase the sector’s sustainability.
  • Help ensure that the different areas of the Bank operate in an integrated manner to achieve this vision in the mining sector.
  • Support the identification, structuring, and management of new projects focused on mining value chains, including support for resource mobilization and other related technical support activities for the Mining Group.
  • Support the assessment of the financial, economic, and technical viability of the Group’s projects; participate in the evaluation of project results and impacts; and support the preparation of supervision plans and budgets for carrying out the Group’s work program.
  • Assist and support executing agencies and beneficiaries of Bank operations in meeting the technical and fiduciary requirements needed to carry out the proposed operations and activities.
  • Support the preparation of progress monitoring reports for technical cooperation projects and ongoing loan operations.
  • Contribute to the execution of non-financial products, such as strategic knowledge studies and the promotion of IDB activities, including, among others, publications, blogs, dissemination materials, preparation of terms of reference, selection of experts, review of reports, organization of and participation in workshops, seminars, and other technical events.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Social Sciences, Political Science, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the mining sector. Experience in multilateral organizations is desirable. Experience is preferred in: (i) analysis, structuring, and execution of technical assistance and investment projects in the mining sector, particularly in lithium and other critical minerals; (ii) design and implementation of government reforms related to mining; (iii) academic research (independent and/or coordinated); (iv) drafting, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies; (v) preparation and execution of technical assistance for the development, implementation, management, and/or evaluation of projects; and (vi) organization of events.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, is required.

Type of contract and duration

  •  International consultant Full-Time, 18 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
