Duties and Responsibilities
BACKGROUND UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.7 million registered Palestine Refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine Refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with 30,000 staff, most involved in direct service delivery with Palestine refugee communities. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. Within DIOS, the Investigations Division undertakes investigations and related support activities in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards. The internship/volunteer assignment is intended to provide practical support to DIOS ID in relation to reporting, data management and intake processes, while providing the intern/volunteer with exposure to professional investigative support work in a United Nations context. Purpose of Internship The purpose of the internship/volunteer assignment is to support DIOS ID in strengthening reporting, data management and intake-related processes by assisting with the organization, verification, compilation and presentation of information used for investigative intake, case monitoring and management reporting. Description of Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of designated DIOS ID staff, the intern/volunteer will support reporting, data management and intake activities, including the organization of information, maintenance of tracking tools, preparation of summaries and support to intake-related administrative processes. Specific activities include: • Assist in maintaining and updating intake, case-tracking and reporting tools used by DIOS ID. • Support the review, organization and consolidation of intake-related information and documentation. • Assist in preparing statistical summaries, tables, dashboards, briefing notes and other management information products, as required. • Support data quality checks, including consistency, completeness and accuracy of information entered in relevant tracking systems. • Assist in organizing documents and records in accordance with applicable confidentiality, information-management and record-keeping requirements. • Provide other administrative and analytical support related to intake, reporting and data management, as requested. Learning Objectives The internship/volunteer assignment will provide exposure to DIOS ID intake, reporting and data-management processes in a United Nations oversight context. The intern/volunteer is expected to gain practical understanding of confidentiality requirements, documentation standards, data quality, reporting discipline and the role of structured information management in supporting effective investigative work.
Qualifications/special skills
• Enrolment in, or recent completion of, a university degree in public administration, business administration, information management, data management, law, international relations, social sciences or another relevant field. • Excellent command of English; knowledge of Arabic is desirable. • Strong drafting, organizational and analytical skills. • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, integrity and respect for confidentiality. • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word; familiarity with data visualization or case-management tools is desirable.
Languages
Excellent command of English; knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
