Overview of positionWith more than 20 years of experience in the country, our client in Afghanistan focuses on providing maximum support to the people of Afghanistan through the delivery of projects and services that improve the lives of people in need. Our Client in Afghanistan Country Office (AFCO) serves as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which our client has been designated as the implementation agency. At present, our client’s activities cover a range of sectors including humanitarian, basic human needs, cash for work, infrastructure, development, procurement and HR services. The functional objective of our client is to contribute to improving the lives of girls, boys, men and women living in Afghanistan. The aim of our client is to provide efficient and cost-effective implementation services on behalf of all our partners to support the humanitarian response and development of the country. Job-Specific Information
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Manager (SPM), the Project Management Support Associate (Diversity and Inclusion) supports the Senior Project Manager (SPM) and DPM in a) ensuring compliance with the Project’s Sexual Abuse and Exploitation / Sexual Harrassment Action Plan, and b) in supporting project components on any relevant gender and social inclusion aspects, including developing and revieing the Gender Action Plan and monitoring progress of the Plan. Both also provide support on training and awareness, data analytics and monitoring of gender-related policies. The Project Management Support Associate (Diversity and Inclusion) will be required to travel across all project sites.
Role objectives2 Summary of Key Functions
Support the SPM and DPM in mainstreaming gender perspectives in all project activities, both community-based infrastructure development and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) related capacity development.
Organize gender awareness and sensitivity training for the contractors, partner organizations, community groups and members with support from SPM and DPM.
Support the SPM and DPM in the promotion, incentivizing and evaluation of the inclusion and participation of women in the communities in project activities
Support to ensure and monitor the inclusion of women in project activities through planning, participation, employment opportunities, and monitoring as required.
Provide transactional support in training management and all project personnel and partner organizations key personnel in the project’s gender and diversity norms.
Help raise awareness of GBV within the communities in which UNOPS operate.
Closely monitor and report on the implementation of the project’s entry criteria of access (ECA) related to women’s inclusion and participation.
Support all Project components in all aspects of gender equality and social inclusion.
Support the SPM and DPM to collect, compile, analyze and report on the gender-disaggregated data on the inclusion of women, physically or mentally challenged persons, IDP/returnee, very elderly and other most vulnerable groups in the project beneficiary selection and project benefits.
Closely monitor and inform the SPM and DPM on policies/procedures/guidelines/laws issued by the de-facto authorities at central and field levels that could impact on the participation of women and other marginalized groups in project activities.
Ensure that the overall training materials of the project are gender-sensitive and contextualized for project coverage areas.
Serve as a permanent member of the grievance redressal committee related to gender-based violence or sexual harassment.
Assist the SPM and DPM in the implementation, sensitization and compliance with the Project’s SEA/SH Action Plan to all project staff and workers.
3. Impact of Results
The effective and successful achievement of results by the Project Management Support Associate (Diversity and Inclusion) directly impacts on the development and performance of the project. It confirms Client's role as a key and trusted partner to our Client, and Client's position as a critical service provider, in all challenging work environments. Given the current political and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, this project would support the urgent repositioning of Our Client and strengthen Our Client's presence and visibility in Afghanistan, raising the profile of Our Cleint in the global humanitarian context.
Monitoring and progress controls will be in accordance with work plans that the Supervisor and incumbent will prepare at the beginning of the assignment.
