Job Description
Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) has been a core activity of IOM Türkiye since 2009. The AVRR programme facilitates the orderly and humane return and reintegration of migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in host or transit countries and wish to return voluntarily to their countries of origin.
Building Türkiye’s legislation and national operations around AVRR has also become a key activity in the country, in partnership with the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM), other relevant authorities, NGOs, and diplomatic missions of the countries of return.
Under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer (Compliance) and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate (CM), the incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the AVRR programme activities of the mission.
Responsibilities
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide French to English or Turkish interpretation services for IOM AVRR programme activities. Maintain a level of neutrality during the interpretation and avoid providing his/her personal inputs in delivering messages between the interviewer and the migrant.
- Provide clerical support to IOM AVRR staff during the counselling preparation.
- Provide ad hoc support for written French - and English/Turkish translations.
- Assist with the intake of migrants when need be.
- Provide general information on AVRR programme and answer basic queries on the procedures to the migrants when need be.
- Contribute to reporting and statistics as requested.
- Comply with the IOM Standards of Conduct and the IOM Confidentiality Agreement. Maintain a professional appearance and migrant-friendly demeanour at all times. Maintain positive working relationships within the IOM team and with government authorities. Maintain confidentiality and discretion in treating applicants’ medical and personal information.
-Assist the process of referring the vulnerable migrants who has special needs.
- Immediately inform management of any problems or issues related to the daily work and make suggestions on how to improve efficiency and client service.
- Perform other such related duties as may be required.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, Linguistics, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two year of relevant professional experience.
- Completed High school diploma from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant experience.
Experience:
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and
other vulnerable groups; is an advantage, and,
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government
institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Experience in translation in case management processes is an advantage
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the organization.
- Knowledge of implementing emergency/humanitarian projects.
- Microsoft Office Skills, for any necessary field reporting.
Languages:
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, fluency in French and Turkish or English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of other UN languages or Farsi is advantageous.
