Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) was established in 1948 as the United Nations’ specialized agency for health. Its mandate is to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve vulnerable populations. The WHO Regional Office for Africa supports Member States in strengthening health systems, advancing universal health coverage, and improving health outcomes across the African Region. Within the Health Systems and Services Department, the Health Financing and Governance Team provides technical support on health financing reforms, public financial management for health, governance, accountability and financial protection.
The Health Financing and Governance Team supports Member States through analytical work, technical assistance, evidence generation and policy dialogue. From 2026 onwards, the team will implement an expanded portfolio of multi‑country initiatives supported by development partners, increasing the volume of technical, analytical, and advocacy outputs produced at regional and country levels. These activities heighten the need for clear communication, strong digital presence, and professionally designed products aligned with WHO standards. The Digital Media and Graphic Design Officer UN Volunteer will support these efforts by strengthening digital communication, improving the visual presentation of technical outputs and enhancing the accessibility and visibility of the team’s work for internal and external audiences.
