Organizational Context and Scope

Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Movement Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental 
pillar of the Organization’s work. The organized movement of persons in need of international 
migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM’s operations. 
This mandate has resulted in the international transport of more than 15 million migrants and refugees 
worldwide. Movement Operations departments in various IOM Country offices (COs), coordinated 
under the unit of Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) in the Department of Mobility 
Pathways and inclusion at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters, are responsible for all aspects of travel for 
migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements 
with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization's 
programmes.


Under the overall supervision of the Head of RMM and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme 
Coordinator, RMM, the successful candidate will assist with RMM projects, primarily through administrative 
support, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, implementation, and communications.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide administrative support to the RMM projects, assist in carrying out their immediate to 
    long-term objectives as defined in the programme documents, including support for the country 
    assessments, and implementation of activities to develop or strengthen resettlement programmes.
  2. Support project review and endorsement processes for Country Offices outside of the European 
    Economic Area (EEA) for new and ongoing projects that have resettlement and/or movement 
    components, including the development of project proposals, appeals, and response plans.
  3. Deliver training and provide guidance to staff on RMM strategy, institutional policies, project 
    development and implementation support related to complementary pathways and protection 
    mainstreaming.
  4. Liaise internally with the IOM divisions for organizing meetings, drafting meeting summaries, 
    collecting information and inputs related to complementary pathways and protection 
    mainstreaming, promoting broader institutional coordination on establishing, expanding and 
    enhancing resettlement and complementary pathways.
  5. Provide technical support in capacity building, delivering training and supporting communities of 
    practice on frameworks and tools related to the operationalization of complementary pathways 
    and protection mainstreaming across RMM programming.
  6. Coordinate closely within RMM, with Migrant Protection Unit (MPX) and across other HQ 
    Divisions and Units on policy updates, in relation to management and transportation of vulnerable 
    migrants.
  7. Provide administrative and logistical support to communications and public information, by 
    contributing to the development of slide presentations, press notes, Talking Points, situation 
    reports, and newsletter.
  8. Develop infographics representing programme achievements on resettlement, complementary 
    pathways and protection mainstreaming, and other components for inclusion in RMM Portal and 
    other fora.
  9. Assist in preparing for and participating in regular calls with country offices, bilateral meetings with 
    UNHCR, other relevant stakeholders, and the donor meetings.
  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Political or Social Science, 
    International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two 
    years of relevant professional experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
     

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Previous experience in providing administrative and logistical support, project development 
    and/or working for an organization which provides humanitarian assistance;
  • Experience in research, writing, outreach, data collection and analysis as well as 
    communications;
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting.
     

Skills

  • Strong organizational and project support skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and 
    meet deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting reports and presentations;
  • Effective coordination and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across teams and engage 
    diverse stakeholders;
  • Computer literate, well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite and design software;
  • Familiarity with IOM’s role in resettlement and movement operations;

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include
written and/or oral assessments.
