Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Organizational Context and Scope

The project supports the protection and assistance of unaccompanied migrant children (UMC)  applicants and beneficiaries of international protection across Greece. Building on the longstanding cooperation between IOM and the Hellenic Ministry of Migration and Asylum, the action ensures the continuation and strengthening of key national protection mechanisms. Through this project, IOM and its partners plan to support in identifying and assisting UMC in precarious conditions or homelessness, operate and support the NERM Hotline. 

Under the overall supervision of the National Cluster Coordinator (Unaccompanied Migrant Children) and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Coordinator Assistant, the selected candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  1. Provide case management guidance and technical support to field teams under the National Emergency Response Mechanism (NERM) framework.
  2. Operate NERM Hotline
  3. Facilitate the referral and accommodation of unaccompanied minors in emergency shelters, in cooperation with local authorities and prosecutors.
  4. Conduct regular follow-ups with field actors to ensure appropriate protection and care arrangements.
  5. Support the tracing and reunification process of unaccompanied children in collaboration with field partners.
  6. Contribute to coordination and thematic meetings, reporting on trends, challenges, and best practices related to the NERM implementation.
  7. Perform other related duties as may be assigned. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school degree/ certificate with minimum three years of work experience; or
  • University degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum one year of work experience. 
  • Master’s degree in above fields is an advantage.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Minimum one year of related work experience in a humanitarian setting;
  • Experience coordinating protection activities and a good understanding of protection SOPs preferred;
  • Experience in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and stakeholders, working in international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports.

Skills

  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills.
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages. Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems;

  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.
  • Willingness to work in day/night shifts, during holidays and weekends.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English and Greek is required (oral and written)
