What will you do in this position?

The coordinator oversees the Gaza field-level component of the Palestine Logistics Cluster response. The incumbent is the main interlocutor for Gaza-based stakeholders, partners and operational counterparts, providing leadership, and ensuring that inter-agency coordination systems, information platforms and operational services are established and maintained at all levels. The coordinator ensures relevant information is collected and shared, and that efficient and adequate operations are set up in support of the humanitarian partners inside Gaza, in line with the overall Palestine Logistics Cluster strategy and UN80 reform.

The function entails the direct supervision of Gaza-based Logistics Cluster staff, field-level operational coordination, monitoring, tracking and reporting of Logistics Cluster activities in Gaza, as well as the escalation of operational gaps, risks and bottlenecks requiring national-level support.

The position is based in Gaza, reports directly to Head of Supply Chain and works under the overall strategic direction of the Palestine Logistics Cluster Coordinator and in close coordination with the national Logistics Cluster cell for Palestine, WFP Supply Chain, teams working from the different corridors and entry points, Gaza Field Office teams, other relevant WFP units, inter-cluster coordination group and humanitarian partners.

Gaza Logistics Cluster response forms an integral part of the overall Palestine Logistics Cluster strategy and aligns with the national Logistics Cluster direction, priorities, Concept of Operations, Standard Operating Procedures, common service approach and agreed operational planning framework. The coordinator is expected to ensure coherence between Gaza-based operations, corridor-level planning and the broader in-country logistics reform agenda, including the field-level implementation of common logistics services and where relevant under the UN80 framework.

Why work with WFP Palestine?

For decades, Palestine has been facing a protracted and complex protection and humanitarian crisis. The humanitarian situation worsened alarmingly after an upsurge in violence from October 2023.

WFP, through our dual mandate in humanitarian and development, provides life-saving food assistance to the most vulnerable and food insecure non-refugee Palestinians.

WFP provides logistics support to humanitarian and development partners, allowing them to reach more people faster, and at a lower cost to donors and the environment. By offering our cash-based transfer platform to the wider humanitarian and development community, coordinating logistics, and developing an inter-agency common feedback mechanism, WFP contributes to wider humanitarian efforts.

Comprised of a diverse, multi-skilled group of logisticians, the Logistics Cluster, led by WFP, is mandated by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) to complement and co-ordinate the logistics capabilities of co-operating humanitarian agencies during large-scale complex emergencies and natural disasters.

In order to support humanitarian community in the Gaza response, the Palestine Logistics Cluster was formally activated on the 16 October 2023.

How can you make a difference?
