The Intern will provide support to WFP Japan Relations Office in communication and partnership under the technical supervision of the Communication Officer and the supervision of Director, WFP Japan Relations Office. The Intern will be in close communication with WFP Japan Relations Office team.

Duration: 6 months (renewable to up to 8 months)

Duties and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Director of WFP Japan Relations Office, the Intern will perform the following duties:

1. Support the maintenance of the WFP website and social media channels by creating compelling videos and social media assets;
2. Develop, manage, define the tone and generate content for the WFP Japan social media presence such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and possibly others;
4. Assist in organizing media interviews, following up on requests for information from media, keeping accurate records of media coverage;
5. Produce information and audio-visual materials, brochures and other documentation;
6. Collect, compile and produce donor visibility materials;
7. Produce reports on WFP communications/fundraising activities as required;
8. Support the preparation of visibility initiatives, including public events and seminars;
9. Assist in maintaining/building WFP Japan's relationships with media, external actors including the private sector, NGOs, academia;
10. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and experience

  • Currently enrolled with at least 2 years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within the past 6 months) in the field of international relations, business, marketing, or related areas of study;

  • University course attendance in the past 12 months;

  • Native level command of Japanese and excellent command of English;

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

Supervision

Under the technical supervision of the COM Officer and the overall supervision of the Director of WFP Japan Relations Office, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

Training components

Throughout the assignment WFP intern will have access to an industry leading learning platform. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should have learned the following:

  • Good understanding of WFP activities

  • Good understanding of WFP’s messaging

  • Good understanding of working in a team in a UN agency / a working environment such as WFP communication and advocacy team

Terms and Conditions

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP to be determined depending on the duty station of assignment for a maximum of $1,000/month.

  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.

  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.

  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.

  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
