1.Role and responsibilities
NRC is implementing a Shelter Programme in Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps in Jordan to improve the living conditions of refugees through the provision of adequate shelter assistance and support to meet their basic needs. The Shelter Technical Assistant is responsible for planning, supervising, and monitoring shelter maintenance and construction activities, ensuring that implementation is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with approved technical specifications, quality standards, and NRC procedures.

Specific responsibilities:
These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.


• Resolves engineering problems by collecting and analyzing information; researching, analyzing, adapting, and modifying engineering techniques; recommending solutions; preparing drawings, schematics, and diagrams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; resolving design integration issues; developing specifications and safety standards; performing installations.
• Supervise daily shelter construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation activities to ensure compliance with approved technical specifications, BoQs, safety requirements, and quality standards.
• Monitor the performance of incentive-based volunteers and skilled labourers, ensuring work is completed efficiently and according to agreed schedules.
• Conduct relevant assessments in the camp, including but not limited to caravan repairing assessment.
• Following up with labors and making sure that all requested tasks are done based on the agreed specifications, requirements, quality, and on time.
• Reporting work progress on daily, weekly or monthly basis as it will be agreed with the line manager based on the available workload and based on the nature of the given task.
• Prepare detailed plans for project implementation and ensure follow up and updating of the plan during implementation.
• Prepare material requests, dispatch forms, and quantity estimates based on approved designs and Bills of Quantities (BoQs).
• Immediately report implementation challenges, delays, risks, and technical issues, together with proposed mitigation measures.
• Other functions that might be assigned by the supervisor.
