Background and Objectives of EFASS
The Education for All in South Sudan, EFASS, project aims to improve access to quality, responsive education for vulnerable children and strengthen the systems required to sustain equitable education service delivery. IRC will directly implement education activities in Aweil South and Aweil East under the project.
The Education Officer will support IRC’s direct implementation of education activities in Aweil East/Aweil South through day-to-day field coordination, activity delivery, monitoring, and follow-up with schools, communities, and local stakeholders.
Scope of Work
The Education Officer will support day-to-day direct implementation of education activities in the assigned county under EFASS. The role will work closely with schools, PTAs/SMCs, communities, teachers, facilitators, and local education authorities to support delivery of activities related to learner enrolment and retention, foundational learning recovery, teacher support, learner monitoring, and community mobilization.
The post holder will provide practical field-level coordination and follow-up to ensure that activities are implemented on time, documented properly, and aligned with project standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Field Implementation of Education Activities
- Support direct implementation of education activities in assigned schools and communities.
- Assist with community mapping, household outreach, enrolment and re-enrolment mobilization, back-to-school campaigns, and learner follow-up.
- Support implementation of TaRL, remedial learning, catch-up classes, transition support sessions, radio listening groups, and other learning recovery activities as assigned.
- Assist with distribution and tracking of teaching and learning materials, worksheets, lesson guides, and classroom support materials.
2. School and Community Follow-Up
- Conduct regular visits to schools and communities to follow up on implementation progress.
- Support schools, PTAs/SMCs, and community leaders to improve learner attendance, retention, transition, and participation.
- Follow up on children at risk of dropout and support community-based actions to keep learners engaged in education.
- Support implementation of community engagement activities related to girls’ participation, inclusion of children with disabilities, and learner retention.
3. Teacher and Facilitator Support
- Support organization of teacher and facilitator activities, including training follow-up, school visits, and implementation support.
- Assist with classroom observation, mentoring follow-up, and monitoring of teacher/facilitator attendance and performance.
- Support teachers and facilitators to use agreed tools, lesson plans, and learner grouping approaches.
4. Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting
- Collect and organize routine field records, including attendance, activity implementation records, learner participation data, and school visit notes.
- Support routine monitoring visits and provide implementation updates to supervisors.
- Assist with collection of assessment, progression, and transition data where required.
- Prepare field notes, activity summaries, and implementation reports in a timely manner.
5. Safeguarding, Accountability, and Inclusion
- Promote safe programming and uphold safeguarding standards during all field activities.
- Support community awareness of project objectives, eligibility criteria, and feedback channels.
- Ensure activities are implemented in ways that are inclusive of girls, children with disabilities, over-age learners, and other vulnerable children.
- Identify and report safeguarding, accountability, attendance, or implementation concerns in a timely manner.
Confidentiality: Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.

Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field required.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in education programming or related field implementation roles.
- Experience working with schools, communities, and local authorities is strongly preferred.
- Experience in fragile, conflict-affected, or low-capacity settings required, preferably in South Sudan or similar contexts.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong field coordination, implementation follow-up, and reporting skills.
- Understanding of school- and community-based education programming.
- Ability to work closely with diverse stakeholders in rural field settings.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Language Skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
