Duties and Responsibilities

About UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Planning, Finance Section (PFS) of UN-Habitat supports countries in developing urban planning methods and systems that address current urbanization challenges. It promotes urban planning approaches to address urban expansion and transformation. PFS thorough its Urban Lab, collaborates with the Regional Office for Africa (ROAf) for the implementation of the activities related to the Purpose above described (Eco City masterplan). Reporting and Communication The expert will be hired to collaborate closely with the Urban Lab team and PFS. He/she will be reporting to the Programme Management Officer. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Project Manager from Planning Finance Section, the incumbent of the post will have to fulfil the following duties and responsibilities: - Prepare materials (presentations, maps, drawings) for workshops with city and county officials and technical staff in Nigeria and Kenya - Be responsible of the drafting, revision and completion planning materials for spatial analysis and strategic visions in Nigeria and Kenya - Participate in technical missions, if required.

Qualifications/special skills

Education and experience, An advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design is a required. A first-level university degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least 2 years of proven experience in drawing and preparing plan graphical material using computer assisted design tools, with special attention to data management and processing with GIS software is required. Good hand drawing / sketching of macro-scale plans is an advantage. Good analytic and design skills in regional and citywide planning and design is an advantage. Working experience in the African continent is an advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this advertised position fluency in English and Kiswahili is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
