About the Region
The UNOPS Middle East Region (MR) provides strategic leadership, performance oversight, and support to UNOPS operations across Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and the State of Palestine. About the Project Office
UNOPS supports both humanitarian response and early recovery in Gaza. Currently, UNOPS support in Gaza focuses on key humanitarian enablers, including on access, via the Security Council-mandated UN 2720 Mechanism and the Access Support Unit (ASU), humanitarian fuel and energy, and mine action. Operations are envisaged to continue in the coming period with a focus in line with the UNOPS mandate: (i) infrastructure construction and rehabilitation, (ii) procurement and (iii) project management.
Job Specific Context
In response to the increasing demand for spatial analysis, urban profiling, damage assessments, recovery planning, and evidence-based programming, particularly in the context of the Gaza crisis and interventions in the West Bank, UN-Habitat seeks to recruit a GIS and Data Analysis Associate that will support the implementation of GIS and information management activities across UN-Habitat's programme portfolio. Working under the direct supervision of the Senior National Urban Programme Officer, the incumbent will assist in data collection, database management, map production, visualization and preparation of GIS products to support programme implementation, monitoring and reporting.
Role Purpose
The GIS and Data Analysis Associate supports programme implementation by producing accurate spatial data, maps and basic analytical products that contribute to evidence-based planning, reporting and monitoring. The incumbent ensures that GIS databases and project information are maintained in an organized and timely manner, contributing to the efficient delivery of programme activities.
Functions / Key Results Expected
The GIS and Data Analysis Associate will undertake the following tasks:A. GIS and Mapping Support
Prepare and update thematic maps using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and QGIS under the guidance of the supervisor.
Support the collection, processing and visualization of geospatial data for programme activities.
Assist in updating GIS databases and maintaining spatial datasets.
Produce standard maps and simple spatial analysis to support programme implementation.
B. Data Management and Analysis
Collect, organize, clean and maintain programme-related spatial and non-spatial datasets.
Assist in compiling data for reports, dashboards and project monitoring.
Perform routine data quality checks and maintain proper metadata and documentation.
Support the preparation of simple charts, tables and data visualizations.
C. Coordination and Programme Support
Support programme teams by preparing maps, graphics and GIS outputs for reports, presentations and donor deliverables.
Assist in data collection exercises, field verification and information management activities.
Support the organization and filing of GIS products and project documentation.
Provide administrative and technical support for GIS-related programme activities.
D. Capacity Building and Coordination
Maintain GIS databases, project folders and data repositories.
Assist in preparing user guides and basic documentation.
Support internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
Perform other GIS- and data-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Competencies
Education Requirements
Required
High school Diploma is required.
Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Geomatics, Data Science, Architecture, Engineering or a related field may substitute some of the required years of experience
Experience Requirements
Required
A minimum of 6 years of experience (or less depending on academic credentials) in GIS, mapping, data management or spatial analysis is required.
Experience using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS and Microsoft Office is required.
Desired
Experience with Power BI, Survey123, Kobo Toolbox or similar data collection platforms is desirable.
Knowledge of Python or SQL is an asset.
Previous experience with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable.
