Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
IRRI is playing a crucial role as an Executing Entity of the Thai Rice GCF (Strengthening Climate-Smart Rice Farming) Project that aims to facilitate a transformational change in the Thai Rice sector by empowering vulnerable smallholder farmers to make improved decisions in the face of climate change and enable access to climate-smart farming technologies, advancing climate-smart rice farming through the development, demonstration, validation, and dissemination of innovative technologies.
Under this project, IRRI is conducting research and validation of mechanized Dry Direct Seeded Rice (m-DSR), agronomic management practices, methane mitigation options, and climate-smart rice production systems. IRRI seeks to engage a consultant to support field research activities, agronomic data collection, phenotyping, and preliminary analysis of experimental rice trials.
This position will be based at the IRRI Thailand Country Office and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Thailand.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Establishing and managing experimental rice plots using the mechanized dry direct seeding (m-DSR), drones, and farmers’ conventional methods.
- Assisting in the planning and execution of field activities, including land preparation, soil sampling and analysis, seeding, crop management, and harvesting.
- Recording detailed crop management practices such as seeding rate, fertilizer application, irrigation/water management, pest/weed/disease management, and harvesting.
- Collecting scientific data on crop growth and development according to the schedule (e.g. plant height, tiller number, survival rate, yield components, grain yield, root sampling, biomass, etc.).
- Recording input use, labor, time, and associated costs for each crop establishment method.
- Maintaining accurate field records, including photographs and daily logs.
- Assisting in data entry and preliminary data analysis.
- Supporting communication and coordination with researchers and local partners involved in the trials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Experience in rice field research, crop management, or agronomic trials.
- Proficiency in crop data collection and field monitoring.
- Familiarity with climate-smart rice production technologies and mechanized farming practices.
Skills Required

- Strong skills in crop data collection, monitoring, and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Fluent in Thai, with working proficiency in English for reportin
