We are seeking to fill the position of IT Operations Associate G6, based in the Foundational Technology Branch (TECM) at the World Food Programme Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT


At this level job holders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. Job holders are expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate a team of support staff.

This position will report to the TECM Manager.


THE ROLE

To coordinate and guide Information Technology maintenance and support activities to enable the effective delivery of IT services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

  • Carry out system and hardware maintenance tasks, such as running specialised network monitoring and system protection, to ensure technology is running effectively.

  • Monitor technology reliability, identify user needs, analyse data and produce accurate reports in order to recommend IT solutions to support informative decision-making.

  • Resolve queries independently, escalating if required, to ensure that standard IT questions are answered and accurate information is provided to staff.

  • Provide standard technical training to end users of commonly used technology and systems, in order to assist WFP staff in conducting their work.

  • Provide guidance and training to junior colleagues in the delivery of IT support services to support the capability building of staff.

  • Support the co-ordination of new application implementation in order to provide WFP staff with the tools they need to perform effectively.

  • Draft standard material such as end-user and technical documentation to ensure staff have access to required information about IT services and products.

  • Implement improvements to methods and processes within the IT division in order to support the continuous improvement of IT services provided.

  • Coordinate installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems and equipment, to ensure optimal services in compliance with standard operations procedures.

  • Coordinate a team of IT staff to ensure individual and team objectives are met in compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.

  • Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required to provide support in enabling emergency food assistance needs to be met.


OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements:

  • Experience in coordinating and managing implementation of technical projects.

  • Experience with supporting technical leadership in the provision of video conferencing and connectivity services.

  • Experience in reporting, drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation and maintaining plans and budgets.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience necessary to actively support, enhance, implement, and manage IP networks, telecommunications, and videoconferencing systems.

  • Experience in engaging and managing third-party service providers and vendors, including technical overseeing troubleshooting and coordinating second and third-level support.

  • Demonstrated experience managing systems such as voice-over IP (VOIP) technologies, video conferencing systems (e.g. Poly, Yealink) and networking.

Desirable requirements:

  • Has experience working within and with United Nations inter agency context.

  • Has experience with Microsoft Teams Telephony and Session Border Controller (SBC) services.

  • Has experience analysing service management results and development service enhancement recommendations.

  • Has participated in business process re-engineering efforts and identified service management improvements.

  • Has experience participating in procurement/budgeting processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.


Experience: Six or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the relative business stream.

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language is required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS


Please note that this is a local recruitment for a General Service Staff position; therefore applicants must:

a) be Italian citizen, or non-Italian citizen holding a valid legal permit to live and work in Italy; and

b) reside within commuting distance (100 km or 1.5 hours travel time) of the duty station in Rome, Italy (Via Cesare Giulio Viola, 68, 00148), or already live in the country and be willing to relocate to Rome at their own expense before taking up the assignment. Preference will be given to candidates who already reside within commuting distance of the duty station. Please note that WFP will not cover relocation or living expenses and will not provide assistance in obtaining and extending residency status or work permits.


WFP offers a competitive compensation package, determined by the contract type and the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
