Organizational Context and Scope
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non‑governmental partners. IOM promotes the orderly and humane management of migration, advances international cooperation on migration issues, supports practical solutions to emerging challenges, and provides humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including internally displaced person.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities.
- Compile, summarise, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.
- Monitor budget implementation and propose adjustments as necessary.
- Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organisational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
- Draft status reports, identify shortfalls, escalate issues to the supervisor and suggest corrective measures to address delivery gaps.
- Draft correspondence on project issues, prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.
- Organise meetings, workshops and training sessions, prepare training materials and participate in the delivering of capacity building workshops.
- Respond to complex information requests and inquiries. Set up and maintain files/records.
- Participate in meetings and conferences. Maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation (UN) agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
- Monitor work of implementing partners and report any non-compliance to the supervisor.
- Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.
- Provides guidance/training and assist in coordinating and monitoring work of other staff in the unit. May supervise other staff as assigned.
- Perform such other relevant duties as maybe assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Social Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience; or,
High School diploma with six years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- Professional work experience in the Temporary Settlements Management sectors (Shelter, CCCM, and DRM), related to humanitarian assistance and emergency response for people in situations of human mobility.
- Experience in humanitarian emergency response, as well as experience working within the international cooperation system, preferably in the context of human mobility in Venezuela and within the Temporary Settlements Management sectors (Shelter, CCCM, and DRM), supporting humanitarian assistance and emergency response for people in situations of human mobility.
- Knowledge of the main humanitarian principles, frameworks, and standards, including humanitarian minimum standards, with particular expertise in the Temporary Settlements Management sectors (Shelter, CCCM, and DRM).
- Experience in monitoring plans, programmes, and projects implemented from the national to the local level, identifying context-specific challenges and demonstrating the ability to adapt strategies to different operational environments.
Languages
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, fluency in spanish is required (oral and written).
Working knowledge of English.
