About this position

We are looking for a strategic, collaborative, and adaptable Communications Consultant. As a Communications Consultant, you will provide targeted communications support to strengthen the strategic positioning and visibility of the IDB Group as a trusted partner for sustainable development. You will support the Country Office Management Team and relevant business units in delivering priority external communications related to institutional priorities, regional programs, partnerships, operations, and knowledge products. Working closely with the Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC), the Caribbean Country Department, and the Communications Division, you will prioritize high-impact communications activities, develop compelling content, engage diverse stakeholders, and provide timely communications support across multiple audiences and channels in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

You will work in the Guyana Country Office, part of the Caribbean Country Department (CCB) within the Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC). This team is responsible for leading the IDB Group's engagement with Guyana, supporting the country's sustainable development agenda through strategic partnerships, country programming, operations, and knowledge initiatives, while advancing the institutional priorities and regional integration objectives of the IDB Group.

What you’ll do

  • Provide strategic communications advice and support to the Country Representative and management team, ensuring alignment with IDB Group communications policies, guidelines, and approval processes.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on the annual communications work plan aligned with Country Office, Regional Department, VPC, and institutional priorities.
  • Design and execute visibility initiatives that communicate the development impact of IDB operations, partnerships, and knowledge products.
  • Support communications for high-visibility events, ensuring compliance with institutional priorities, protocols, brand standards, and approved messaging.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media, journalists, opinion leaders, and priority stakeholders in coordination with the Senior Regional Communicator and the Communications Division.
  • Support media outreach, press briefings, interviews, and placements, ensuring all external communications follow established corporate workflows and approval processes.
  • Draft, coordinate, and obtain clearance for press releases, media responses, talking points, and other media materials while monitoring media coverage and identifying reputational risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure brand and visual identity compliance across communications products, events, and partner-facing materials in accordance with IDB Group standards.
  • Draft, adapt, edit, and coordinate a wide range of communications materials, including press releases, presentations, talking points, stories, newsletters, web content, event briefs, and social media content.
  • Develop compelling social media content in collaboration with the Communications Division, ensuring all communications are timely, approved, consistent, and aligned with institutional messaging.

What you'll need

  • Education: A Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or other fields relevant to the responsabilities of the role. 
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, development communications, or public relations. This experience should ideally be within a media outlet, strategic communications agency, private foundation, or the communications office of an international organization or multilateral institution. Demonstrated professional experience working in Guyana is highly desirable. A strong understanding of the local cultural environment and diplomatic protocol would be a significant asset.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English spoken and written is required.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our .  Must be eligible to work in Guyana without the need for sponsorship.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National consultant Part-Time 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
