CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

The REnew Pacific – Empowering Rural Communities of Vanuatu through Renewable Energy Solutions aims to improve access to reliable renewable energy and clean water in rural communities across Vanuatu. The project will install solar-powered water pumping systems in rural communities and provide renewable energy solutions for health and education facilities through standalone solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with battery storage.

The project adopts an integrated approach that combines infrastructure delivery with community engagement, institutional strengthening, capacity building, inclusive governance, environmental sustainability, and long-term operation and maintenance.

To support project implementation, GGGI is seeking a talented individual to assist the project team across technical, operational, monitoring, communication and knowledge management functions.


OBJECTIVE

The internship aims to provide practical experience in renewable energy project implementation while supporting the project team in coordinating activities, documenting progress, strengthening monitoring systems, and capturing lessons and impacts throughout implementation.

The intern will gain exposure to the complete project cycle, from planning and implementation through monitoring, learning and reporting.

S/he will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and receive technical guidance from the Pacific Regional Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer, while working closely with the wider project team, government counterparts and implementation partners.

The intern will provide support across the following areas.

A. Project Coordination

Support day-to-day implementation activities by:

  • Assisting with coordination of project activities, meetings, workshops, and field missions.
  • Maintaining project workplans, trackers, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Preparing meeting minutes and monitoring follow-up actions.
  • Supporting logistical and administrative arrangements for project activities.
  • Providing general operational support to the project team as required.

B. Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

Support implementation of the project's MEL framework by:

  • Assisting with baseline and routine monitoring activities.
  • Supporting collection, organization and verification of project data.
  • Updating monitoring trackers for both Palladium and GGGI KPI tracking.
  • Supporting preparation of quarterly and annual progress reports for both Palladium and GGGI corporate reporting
  • Assisting with data quality checks.
  • Supporting field verification visits.

C. Community Engagement and Capacity Building

Support stakeholder engagement activities including:

  • Community consultations.
  • Capacity-building workshops.
  • Training events.
  • Documentation of community feedback.
  • Preparation of attendance records and workshop reports.

D. Impact, Learning and Knowledge Management

Support the documentation of project experiences by:

  • Collecting stories of change from participating communities.
  • Documenting lessons emerging during implementation.
  • Supporting interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Organizing photographs, videos and field documentation as requested by the communications team
  • Assisting in developing knowledge products.
  • Supporting preparation of annual impact reports or products

E. Technical and Field Support

Assist during project implementation by:

  • Supporting field missions.
  • Recording observations from installation sites.
  • Assisting with site documentation.
  • Supporting beneficiary registration where required.
  • Documenting installation progress through photographs and reports.
  • Supporting collection of field data using digital tools.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES

The intern will contribute to:

  • Updated project documentation.
  • Meeting minutes and action trackers.
  • Monitoring Trackers.
  • Field visit reports.
  • Community consultation summaries.
  • Project photographs and multimedia archive.
  • Draft communication materials.
  • Impact stories and knowledge products.
  • Inputs to quarterly and annual project reports.

ELIGIBILITY                                                     

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English and Bislama

QUALIFICATION
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Project Management, Development Studies or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Willingness to travel to rural communities
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Good analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, outlook) and familiarity with digital tools, e.g.: Teams, SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of Kobo Toolbox or other digital data collection platforms, data visualization tools such as Power Bi, Tableau is desirable
  • Experience in data collection, reporting, community engagement, or project administration is desirable.
  • Photography and documentation skills are desirable
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Interest in renewable energy, climate resilience and sustainable development

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and for up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
