The World Bank’s Health, Nutrition and Population (HNP) team in Ukraine supports the Government of Ukraine in advancing health system recovery, reform, and resilience in the context of ongoing Russia’s invasion and fiscal constraints. The team’s work includes implementation support to health operations, analytical and advisory activities, policy dialogue with the Ministry of Health, the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU), the Ministry of Finance, and development partners, and preparation of evidence-based inputs for reforms and investments. 

Current areas of work include improving the efficiency of public financing for health, strengthening transparency and accountability within the health sector, strategic health sector planning, including infrastructure and capital investments, aligned with the Bank’s broader support for public investment management reforms and redesigning service delivery to meet the needs of the aging population. 

The internship will provide hands-on exposure to health sector reform and World Bank operations in Ukraine. The intern will support analytical, coordination, and documentation tasks for the HNP Ukraine work program while working in person with the Kyiv-based health task team. 

Duties and Responsibilities


The intern will primarily support analytical work for the HNP Ukraine team, while also contributing to coordination, documentation, and knowledge-management tasks as needed. Duties may include: 

•Supporting desk reviews, evidence synthesis, and background research on health financing, public financing efficiency, transparency and accountability, service delivery, strategic planning, infrastructure and capital investment, and aging-related health system needs. 
•Assisting with data collection, cleaning, basic analysis, and visualization using available administrative, survey, project monitoring, or publicly available data. 
•Contributing to analytical notes, short briefs, presentations, talking points, meeting summaries, and other inputs for policy dialogue and implementation support. 
•Helping track and summarize health sector reform developments, stakeholder inputs, project activities, and follow-up actions across selected HNP workstreams. 
•Supporting preparation and organization of consultations, workshops, and meetings with government counterparts, development partners, civil society organizations, and technical experts. 
•Reviewing draft materials for clarity, consistency, formatting, and alignment with agreed objectives. 
•Organizing references, working files, datasets, and background materials to support team knowledge management. 
•Performing other related analytical and coordination tasks as needed. 

Selection Criteria

•Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or in the final year of postgraduate (Master’s/PhD) program. 
•Academic background should be relevant to the role, such as public health, health policy, economics, public administration, social sciences, data analytics, international development, or a related field. 
•Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, including ability to gather, review, and synthesize information from multiple sources. 
•Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines. 
•Effective written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare clear summaries, notes, and presentation inputs. 
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with data visualization or analytical tools such as Power BI, Stata, R, Python, or similar is an advantage. 
•Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments and maintain professional communication with internal and external stakeholders. 
•Proficiency in English
