About the job:

Based in Braine l’Alleud you will join the Agency as we embark on a journey to transform our IT services to support NATO’s Digital Endeavour. You will join the team accountable for planning and executing the full lifecycle management activities (design, transition and operations) for the identified area of responsibility. That team provides generic, domain independent, technical functionality that enables and facilitates the operation and use of Information Technology resources.

This is a temporary location pending completion of the new SHAPE facility at Camp Casteau in Mons. The Braine L’Alleud site is expected to close by end 2027, with future duty stations shifting to Brussels or Mons, depending on function and business needs.

We are looking for a driven and experienced Lead Digital Infrastructure Engineer (internally this position is titled Lead Engineer) to provide technical leadership in the design, integration and evolution of NATO’s digital infrastructure, including networks, hosting and platform systems, storage, data centres, cloud services and secure infrastructure capabilities.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable and resilient digital infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.

  • Provide technical leadership for systems design, integration, build, automation and continuous improvement activities.

  • Advise leadership and internal and external stakeholders on infrastructure design, standards, architecture and technology choices.

  • Ensure coherence between in-house and industry-delivered services, particularly where security, integration and operational resilience are critical.

  • Support the definition, refinement and validation of technical requirements across relevant projects and initiatives.

  • Contribute to procurement activities, including Statements of Work, technical evaluation of industry bids, contract supervision and acceptance of delivered capabilities.

  • Mentor technical staff, promote design best practices and represent NISC in internal and external technical forums.

About you:

The valuable knowledge and experience that you bring to this role are:

  • A Master’s degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a related discipline and 5 years role-related experience. Or a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years role related experience.

  •  At least 5 years Extensive practical experience managing the design and implementation of the underlying technology, software and hardware components that ensure the smooth functioning of networks, hosting and platform systems, storage systems, data centers, and cloud services.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical skills and solution-oriented attitude.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to other IT staff.

  • Experience leading interdisciplinary team preferably in international environment.

  • Practical experience developing and applying architecture, design standards, policies and technical guidance.

  • Experience supporting complex infrastructure programmes, stakeholder engagement and technical decision-making.

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
