Description

WBG Pioneers, the World Bank Group’s Internship Program, offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a high impact learning experience at the heart of global development. Participants gain hands on experience in a diverse and dynamic environment, contribute fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, and connect with international professionals working to end poverty on a livable planet.

The Development Economics Policy Indicators Group (DECIG) produces quantitative indicators of business regulation through primary data collected by the department on laws, regulations, and the experiences of firms operating in the private sector.
Within DECIG, the Enterprise Analysis Unit (DECEA) has developed the Enterprise Surveys (WBES), a survey instrument that links investment climate conditions to firm outcomes such as performance, firm growth, productivity, and employment in client countries. To date, DECEA has assembled a critical mass of firm-level data using ES on more than 200,000 firms across all World Bank regions. WBES also provides factual firm-experience data in support of the World Bank’s Business Ready project. The Unit has developed additional products to meet internal client demands in data collection, indicator generation, and data analysis, including an informal sector survey, innovation modules, and WBES follow-ups to measure the impacts of shocks. The team produces peer reviewed research across private sector development using internal and external data.
DECEA is seeking to hire 2 Short-Term Interns for a 12 week term to execute high value, well defined tasks that strengthen survey standardization and monitoring, accelerate research output, and support dissemination around the Enterprise Surveys. The interns will contribute across four streams: (1) building a questionnaire bank; (2) providing research assistance; (3) supporting dissemination activities; and (4) integrating AI quality control into workflows. The work will generate durable assets, improve operational efficiency, and reduce fieldwork risk and cost.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the development of micro enterprise surveys’ and informal sector surveys’ materials and corresponding website pages.
  • Assist with research activities across the team, including drafting and editing blogs and providing research support to staff on ongoing work.
  • Support in the validation of AI assisted workflows to guarantee accuracy and reliability of outputs.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating a questionnaire question bank to enable robust cross country and longitudinal analysis of WBES and related instruments.
  • Support CAPI questionnaire testing to ensure quality and reliability of survey instruments prior to fieldwork.
