Organizational Context and Scope

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non‑governmental partners. IOM promotes the orderly and humane management of migration, advances international cooperation on migration issues, supports practical solutions to emerging challenges, and provides humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including internally displaced persons.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the preparation and implementation of communication and awareness raising (AWR) plans. 
  2. Support the roll-out of awareness raising campaigns and projects, including IOM X or social media campaigns.  
  3. Support the maintenance of IOM Venezuela’s social media channels (currently Twitter and Facebook, with possibility of launching Instagram), including drafting content, preparing social media assets, maintaining social media calendar, publishing posts as agreed with supervisor and/or Chief of Mission/Project Managers, monitoring audience/community engagement, responding to requests/messages/comments, and preparing reports.   
  4. Assist in the drafting, editing, finalizing and disseminating press briefing notes, human interest stories, blogs, digital newsletter and similar communication materials. 
  5. Support the preparation of reports, publications, information sheets, brochures, posters, flyers, and other promotional materials as required, including drafting content, collecting material from colleagues, editing, formatting, layout and basic graphic design. 
  6. Support the preparation of audiovisual content and photography and videography activities for the Mission and projects, including supporting event coverage, taking photographs of beneficiaries, recording video testimonials and interviews, collecting and filing of consent prior to publication, editing photos and videos, and liaising with external service, such as photographers, videographers, graphic designers, printers, creative agencies, as applicable. 
  7. Assist in keeping the IOM Venezuela website up to date. 
  8. Assist with reviewing communication materials for quality and consistency; high attention to detail is expected. 
  9. Assist with media relations, including preparing information for journalists’ requests (as agreed with the Supervisor and Chief of Mission), preparing media invitations for events and coordinating media interviews. 
  10. Provide logistical and administrative support for communication activities and events.  
  11. Liaise with the communications colleagues at the Regional Office and Headquarters, as required, participate in UN Communications Group (UNCG) meetings and support the implementation of agreed UNCG activities, as required. 
  12. Undertake duty travel. as required.   
  13. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor or Chief of Mission.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Sciences, International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience; or 
  • High school diploma with five years of relevant professional experience.
     

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Experience supporting communication, information or awareness raising activities.

  • Experience in preparing and editing communication materials and reports. 

  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills English required.  

  • Knowledge of a local language would be an asset. 

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications. 

  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop (or similar photo editing software) required. 

  • Experience using graphic design software and video editing software is an advantage; 

  • Experience using social media platforms for awareness-raising and communication purposes. 

  • Experience updating website content would be an advantage.

  • Willingness to support activities across different communications functions, as required. 

  • Ability to prepare communication materials using established communication guidelines.  

  • Able to coordinate with colleagues across different units to collect relevant information. 

  • Experience in working with photographers, graphic designers or other creative service providers is an advantage.

  • Experience working with or supporting international organizations, including the United Nations, is an advantage.
     

Skills

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel). 
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, AI, Photoshop, Premier Pro) or similar graphic design, photo and video editing software. 
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X and, where applicable, Instagram), and basic scheduling and analytical tools. 
  • Basic knowledge of web content management systems.  
  • Knowledge of newsletter dissemination tools, such as Mailchimp. 
  • High attention to detail.
  • Good communication and report writing skills. 
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of the migration-related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.
     

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

REQUIRED For this position, fluency in Spanish and English  is required (oral and written).
