Organizational Context and Scope

​The successful candidate will assist with the planning, organization and monitoring of DTM field operations, including coordination with local authorities and community focal points, support to data collection teams, implementation of assessment tools, quality checks and timely reporting on field progress, challenges and emerging needs. The role will contribute to the production of reliable information on affected populations, displacement, mobility, priority needs and service gaps to support operational decision-making by IOM and partners. 
 

Responsibilities

  1. ​​Support the planning, coordination and monitoring of DTM field activities in assigned areas of operation, in line with agreed workplans and guidance from the supervisor.
  2. ​Assist in organizing field data collection activities, including rapid assessments, mobility tracking, site or location assessments, registration support, key informant interviews and other DTM-related exercises.
  3. ​Support coordination with local authorities, community leaders, service providers, partners and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate access, permissions and implementation of DTM activities.
  4. ​Brief, accompany and support enumerators or field teams during data collection, including by clarifying tools, monitoring progress and reporting operational issues to the supervisor.
  5. ​Contribute to the review, testing and improvement of data collection tools, forms and field guidance materials, ensuring that they are practical and clearly understood by field teams.
  6. ​Collect, compile and verify information from local authorities, community focal points, partners and affected populations, following DTM methodologies and data protection principles.
  7. ​Provide regular updates to the supervisor on implementation status, field access, progress, challenges, irregularities, population movements, priority needs and other relevant observations from the field.
  8. ​Support the preparation of field summaries, meeting notes, operational updates and inputs for DTM reports, dashboards, maps or other information products.
  9. ​Maintain organized records of field visits, contact lists, forms, attendance sheets, operational notes and other relevant documentation, ensuring confidentiality and secure handling of information.
  10. ​Undertake duty travel to support DTM field activities, as required and in accordance with security and operational guidance.
  11. ​Perform such other relevant duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • ​Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Geography, Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, International Relations, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • ​High School diploma with five years of relevant professional experience.​ 

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • ​​Experience supporting field operations, data collection, assessments, community engagement, monitoring and evaluation or information management activities in humanitarian, emergency or development contexts.
  • ​Experience with DTM activities, rapid needs assessments, mobility tracking, location assessments, registration support, key informant interviews or similar data collection exercises is an advantage.
  • ​Experience working with or supporting enumerators, field teams, community focal points, local authorities or partner organizations is an advantage.
  • ​Experience compiling field information, preparing basic summaries, maintaining records and supporting operational updates or information products.
  • ​Experience working in natural disaster, displacement, migration or other crisis-affected contexts is an advantage. 

Skills

  • ​Ability to organize field activities, follow workplans, communicate clearly with teams and report progress, challenges and field observations in a timely manner.
  • ​Basic understanding of DTM, humanitarian assessments, data collection methods, responsible use of data and confidentiality principles.
  • ​Ability to support enumerators and field teams during data collection, including by explaining tools, identifying issues and escalating questions to the supervisor.
  • ​Good command of Microsoft Office and Excel; knowledge of Kobo/ODK, mobile data collection tools, GPS, GIS or other data tools is an advantage.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.  

REQUIRED: For this position, fluency in ​Spanish and English​ is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE: ​​Working knowledge of Portuguese, French or another UN official language is an advantage.​
