Mission and objectives

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. The country strategic plan is aligned with the United Nations sustainable development cooperation framework for Bangladesh for 2022‒2026 and the eighth five-year plan (covering the period July 2020‒June 2025) of the Government of Bangladesh. It is informed by the recommendations of an independent evaluation of the country strategic plan for 2017–2021 and consultation with key stakeholders. It will contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 2 and 17 through four strategic outcomes.

Context

This UN Volunteer assignment is based within the Partnerships, Communication, and Reporting (PCR) Unit of the World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh Country Office. The unit leads partnership development, resource mobilization, donor relations, communications, and reporting in support of the WFP Bangladesh Country Strategic Plan (2022–2026).

The assignment will contribute to WFP’s efforts to support Bangladesh’s development priorities and the humanitarian response to the Rohingya refugee crisis.

The UN Volunteer will support partnership management and donor engagement, with a particular focus on the Republic of Korea (ROK), including the REACH (Responding with Emergency Assistance for Conflict-affected Households) Phase II project and other ROK-funded initiatives, while also supporting engagement with other strategic partners and donors.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Partnerships, Communication, and Reports (PCR), the UN Volunteer is responsible for assisting WFP Bangladesh Country Office PCR Unit in achieving the goals set out in its Country Strategic Plan (2022-2026).

The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks across all three functions within the unit:

Partnerships and Reports:

• Support the partnerships portfolio, including partner profiling and outreach activities and partner visibility. Seek out new partnerships and resources from all types of donors (IFI-International Financial Institutions, private sector, government donors)

• Establish a strong relationship with the donor focal points at the Korean Embassy, KOICA, and the WFP Seoul office, as well as other donors and WFP Global offices.

• Support reporting team and coordination with programme teams to draft reports, proposals and concept notes while ensuring that they are aligned with the donor's interests.

• Keep abreast of the ROK REACH project and draft and submit high quality reports and ensure timely implementation of visibility commitments to ROK as well as other donors

• Assist in preparing meetings with donors including coordination of relevant units and staff to collect inputs to draft communication materials such as presentation slides, briefing notes, talking points, factsheets, donor visibility generation and dissemination etc.

• Assist in drafting and sending out WFP’s external messages to its partners (ex: Thank you and national holiday letters).

Communication:

• Assist in drafting press releases, compelling stories and other strategic communication products to enhance the Unit’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts

• Monitor the media and social media space, come up with relevant research to help the Unit and the Country Office staff stay abreast of the latest social media trends, developments and risks

• Assist in developing advocacy briefs, creative campaigns, handover ceremonies, media/communication events, etc.

• Assist in visual content gathering and production

• Assist in managing social media accounts

• Undertake other responsibilities and tasks, as required.
