Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Through its Regional Office for Africa, it works with nearly 40 African governments to advance sustainable urban development. UN-Habitat East & Horn of Africa is supporting programming across nine (9) countries, with the Kenya Country Programme being a critical part of the sub-region and playing a strategic role due to its proximity to both regional and global UN-Habitat structures in Nairobi. The Kenya Country Programme (KCP) has implemented over 30 projects since 2010 across 22 counties, supporting initiatives such as the Partnership Implementing the New Urban Agenda (PINUA), cross-border resilience projects in Busia, coastal (JKP Counties’) planning through GO BLUE project, water and livelihood integration under Water as Leverage, and refugee settlement planning in Kalobeyei among others. The programme works with national and county governments, development partners, and communities to strengthen urban governance, improve service delivery, expand access to housing, and build resilient and inclusive cities aligned with Kenya’s development priorities and the New Urban Agenda. Responsibilities Under the overall Supervision by the Head of Kenya Country Programme/Task Manager for Kenya and working closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the intern will undertake the following duties: • Support in the monitoring of the overall implementation status of programme • Assist in monitoring of programme and project indicators, outputs, outcomes, targets, against approved workplan and results framework • Support the review of data analyzed for inconsistencies and errors. • Assist in managing the internal M&E system Support in ensuring quality assurance of monitoring templates and recorded data • Support the project team in third party monitoring activities conducted by donors and partners • Support the project team in mandated evaluations, needs assessments and annual surveys. • Assist in compiling monthly quarterly, and annual project reports in the Kenya Country Programme • Assist in organizing workshops, stakeholder consultations, and training sessions related to M&E activities. • Assist in documenting, compiling and sharing change stories, case studies, lessons and best practices that emerge throughout the project. • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate of Graduate in Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Science, Development Studies, Statistics and Project Management. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
