The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. Purpose

Working closely with the Technical Worker and the Security Guard Leader, the Helper assists in maintaining maintenance tools, materials, and inventories, reports major repair requirements to the Premises Maintenance Supervisor, and supports the continuity of facility operations. The role also contributes to the security of ICRC premises by acting as the Deputy Security Guard Leader and ensuring security procedures are effectively implemented in the absence of the Security Guard Leader.

Accountabilities & functional responsibilities

  • Participate in premises first maintenance works including basic electricity, masonry, painting, carpentry, and plumbing.
  • Report maintenance and repair advancement including when a skilled resource is required.
  • Maintain and perform repairs to water supply system of the delegation and residences (plumbing).
  • Perform maintenance of overhead tank, ground tank and septic tanks in collaboration with external resources.
  • Maintain the technical tools, equipment, and consumable in good condition of use and at an appropriate storage place.
  • Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance issues.
  • Load and unload maintenance materials and deliveries.
  • Support emergency repairs during equipment breakdowns or facility issues.
  • Replace the guard leader position when the guard leader is absent.
  • Know emplacing of fire extinguishers, shovels and any other means to fight fire. Use fire extinguishers if necessary.
  • Control of temporary stored goods.

  • Effective communication, networking and listening skills.
  • People person and genuine sense of empathy.
  • Autonomous and adaptable, with ability to interact collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
  • Excellent writing and summarizing skills, and good knowledge of digital tools.
  • Robust organizational and prioritization capacities.
  • Capacity to exercise discretion.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and in a remote environment.
  • Good understanding of the dynamic affecting Myanmar, and specifically Kachin State, and its humanitarian consequences.

Certifications / Education required

  • High school level and certificate in (Electrical, Facilities Management, Building Service).
  • 2-year work experience in a similar field.
  • Basic Computer skill.
  • Basic team management skill and maintenance knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of English.
  • Good communication skill.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Previous ICRC experience and other NGOs or international organizations are also strong assets.
