Country Director South Sudan*
in Juba
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of One Year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Juba, South Sudan (SS).
As Country Director South Sudan, you will lead an impact-oriented country programme spanning humanitarian assistance and long-term development. You will ensure alignment with WHH's global strategy, quality standards, Code of Conduct, organizational values, and partnership principles. You will represent WHH in relevant humanitarian and development forums, strengthen strategic partnerships, lead resource mobilization and donor engagement, and secure new funding opportunities. In South Sudan's highly complex operating environment, you will provide strategic leadership across programme quality, organizational performance, security, people management, and operational effectiveness.
Your responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of WHH's country programme in a complex and evolving context.
- Lead high-quality humanitarian and development programming, driving innovation and the implementation of WHH's Food Systems Approach.
- Ensure the financial sustainability of the country programme through effective resource management, financial stewardship, and resource mobilization.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Senior Management Team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, innovation, and adherence to WHH's values and Code of Conduct.
- Ensure effective risk management, safeguarding, security, duty of care, and business continuity.
- Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with government, donors, UN agencies, civil society, and local partners, advancing WHH's localization agenda.
- Represent WHH externally and serve as the organization's legal representative in South Sudan.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and national legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Promote accountability to affected populations and ensure transparent and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to organizational leadership and continuous improvement through active participation in the WHH Global Leadership Team.
Your profile
- Significant senior leadership experience in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership with the ability to drive organizational performance in complex environments.
- Proven experience leading organizational change, transformation, and crisis response.
- Extensive experience managing integrated humanitarian and development portfolios.
- Strong track record in resource mobilization, business development, and organizational sustainability.
- Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary, and geographically dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, alignment, and effective cross-functional leadership.
- You recognize the growing value of data in your field and are eager to build your awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into your work.
- Full professional proficiency in English is essential.
