Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a highly qualified Communications Officer to support the implementation of communication and visibility activities across DRC programmes in Ukraine and join our team in Kyiv.
About the job
As the Communications Officer, you will contribute to promoting DRC’s mission, programmes and advocacy priorities by supporting communication activities across projects and ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Develop and produce communication materials, including social media content, human interest stories, interviews, multimedia materials and publications.
- Prepare and manage the quarterly DRC Ukraine newsletter, including drafting content, coordinating inputs from programme teams and managing distribution through Mailchimp.
- Ensure regular updates of DRC Ukraine digital platforms, including the website, social media channels and the Pravovsim platform.
- Support implementation of project communication and visibility plans, ensuring compliance with donor communication and visibility requirements.
- Coordinate external communication service providers such as photographers, videographers, designers and translators, including preparation of Terms of Reference (ToR) and technical briefs.
- Develop technical specifications for the production of communication and visibility materials, including printed products.
- Maintain and update a structured archive of photos, videos and other visibility materials.
- Support media engagement and preparation of DRC staff members for interviews.
- Support organisation of internal and external events and contribute to strengthening the capacity of field teams on communication tools and visibility requirements.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have strong communication skills and experience developing communication materials for different audiences. You should be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, coordinate external service providers and ensure compliance with donor communication and visibility requirements. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- At least 2 years of professional experience in communications, media, public relations or advocacy.
- At least 1 year of experience working in an INGO or civil society organisation in a communications-related role.
- Experience developing communication materials including social media content, human interest stories, interviews and articles.
- Experience preparing Terms of Reference (ToR) and technical assignments for communication service providers.
- Experience ensuring compliance with donor communication and visibility requirements, particularly those of institutional donors such as the European Union, Danish MFA, SDC, SIDA, GFFO or similar donors.
- Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, advocacy or a related field.
- Full professional proficiency in English and Ukrainian.
Desirable
- Experience preparing and managing newsletters and mailing campaigns using Mailchimp or similar platforms.
- Practical experience using Canva, Adobe Photoshop or other graphic editing tools.
- Experience working with video content, including script development and basic editing.
- A portfolio of previously published communication materials (articles, stories, multimedia materials or social media campaigns) is considered an asset.

We offer
- Contract length: 6 or 9 months fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension depending on performance and availability of funding after successful completion of a 3-month probationary period

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts; starting from EUR 2,025 gross per month (depending on experience and qualifications).
