SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:Career Programsinternwill assist the Career DevelopmentSpecialist andCareer DevelopmentCoordinator in providing career development services toimmigration impacted youth and young adultclients who are interested in earning industry recognized certifications in fields such as Allied Healthcare, I.T.,andmore. In addition,Career Program intern will help Career Program staff in deliveringworkforce preparation activitiesandclasses at the IRC,so that studentsimprovetheir work readiness skills. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support Career Development staff with a variety of projectssuch as outreach,administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and database quality assurance. 

  • Work individually with clients with resume review, job searching, networking opportunities, and interview preparation.

  • Support Career Program staff withpost-classfollow-ups.

  • Provide one-on-one technicalassistancesessions to participants with limited Englishproficiency.

  • Develop guides and resources in multiple professional fields and prepare curriculums.

  • Assisttraining staff with othertasksassigned.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Intern will increase their knowledge of refugee population in San Diego and challenges theyfacespecifically in workforce.
  • Internwill learn how torenderdirect service to clientsregardingemployment. 
  • Internwill receive training and familiarity in data entry and data analysis.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Mustbeenrolled in an undergraduate program focused on Education, International Relations/Development, Social Work, or relatedfield.  

  • Possess excellent organization skills,strong communicationand interpersonal skills, along with empathy and effective collaboration.

  • Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.

  • English fluencyrequired.

  • Volunteer experiencewith a non-profitpreferred.

  • Show a strong interest in working with a diverse, low-income population.

  • Proactive,motivatedand flexible; able to remain calm and adapt within a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to take direction (written and oral) and to complete tasks independently andina timelymanner.

  • Language skills (such as Farsi/Dari, Kiswahili, Arabic, Burmese or Russian) a plus.

The Development and Communications Internship can be in-person at the San Diego office or fully remote. San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm PST.Selected interns can choose their hours based on this window of availability.
