Role Summary  

The  Emergency Response  Logistics Specialist ensures Medair’s logistics readiness for emergency response operations globally. The role supports preparedness, deployment readiness, emergency response logistics, training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working closely with the Global Emergency Response Team (G-ERT), country programmes and Global Logistics teams, the position provides technical expertise, supports emergency deployments and contributes to the development of logistics standards, systems and best practices across Medair operations.

Project Overview

The Global Logistics team consists of Operations and Logistics Advisors functions that jointly support country programmes and emergency responses through technical guidance, operational support and capacity building.

The G-ERT is Medair’s global emergency response team, designed to deploy within 24 hours, assess needs within 3 days and begin life-saving assistance within 1 week (24/3/1). The Emergency Response Logistics Specialist strengthens emergency logistics capability, preparedness and deployment capacity across Medair.

The role reports to the Global Logistics Manager and has functional collaboration with the Head of GERT, Global Logistics Operations Team, Logistics Advisors Team, Country Programme Logistics Managers and Focal Points.

Workplace & Conditions 

Global Support Office (GSO) position based in Lausanne, Switzerland, Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland. Medair alumni may be considered for a remote placement. Field visits/Travels/ER deployment: 12 – 16 weeks per year.  

Responsibilities

  • Lead ER logistics preparedness and readiness activities, ensuring Medair maintains effective emergency response capability.
  • Identify logistics preparedness and deployment risks and support the development of mitigation measures and continuous improvement actions.
  • Deploy at short notice to provide technical logistics and supply chain support during emergency assessments, start-ups and scale-ups.
  • Develop logistics capacity through training, mentoring, simulations and preparedness initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise, business process support and continuous improvement for designated logistics systems, standards and practices.
  • Strengthen collaboration between GERT, Global Logistics and country programmes to support effective and timely humanitarian responses.
  • When deployed, provide leadership and line management to assigned logistics personnel supporting the emergency response.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies  

  • Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of logistics and supply chain experience.
  • Minimum 3 years supporting humanitarian operations or emergency responses.
  • Experience in emergency start-ups, scale-ups or deployments desirable.
  • Experience delivering training, coaching or capacity building.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, transport, warehousing and inventory management.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as MedEx (Medair digital supply chain system) or equivalent.
  • Fluent English; French, Arabic, Spanish or Portuguese an asset.
