The Kenya Program Coordinator will play a central role in advancing the conservation priorities of the Kenya Program by providing operational, planning, and programmatic support to the Country Director. Working closely with the Country Director and in collaboration with program teams, Finance, and Operations, the Coordinator will help ensure effective programme implementation, budgeting, and tracking of conservation outcomes.
The Program Coordinator will support the development of annual budget guidelines, working alongside budget managers and the Finance and Operations team to ensure accuracy, alignment, and timely delivery. They will maintain strong knowledge of the systems, tools, and resources used across the country program and apply this expertise to strengthen planning, coordination, and communication within the Country Team.
In this role, the Program Coordinator will lead and support diverse activities that require strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions. They will track project outcomes, identify opportunities to enhance effectiveness, and contribute to improved operational coherence across the Kenya Program.
We’re Looking for You:
The Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting the Country Director by providing operational and programmatic coordination across The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Kenya’s thematic areas. This role ensures the Country Director has clear visibility of programme activities, strengthens alignment across teams—including Conservation, Policy & Partnerships, and Operations—and supports the effective implementation of TNC Kenya’s strategic priorities.
Serving as a central coordination point, the Program Coordinator streamlines internal communication, tracks progress on strategic and cross-functional initiatives and promotes collaboration and operational coherence. The role contributes directly to the successful delivery of TNC Kenya’s strategic plan and alignment with TNC’s global 2030 goals.
This position reports to the Kenya Country Director and is based at TNC’s offices in Nairobi. No employment visas or assistance are offered except as required by local labour regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Country Director in tracking programme implementation, strategic priorities, and organizational commitments.
Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between Conservation, Policy & Partnerships, Operations, and shared services.
Maintain a program-wide calendar of key deliverables, reporting deadlines, and strategic milestones.
Monitor follow-up actions from leadership and cross-team meetings to ensure timely execution.
Coordinate multiple complex conservation projects, including team alignment, timeline management, and accountability tracking.
Oversee program-level project management using TNC’s Highly Effective Teams framework and other relevant methodologies.
Prepare briefing materials, reports, dashboards, presentations, and other communication materials to enhance visibility of programme progress.
Organize and facilitate internal meetings, retreats, and strategic planning sessions.
Ensure smooth flow of information between the Country Director’s office and all departments.
Support donor engagement and partner coordination as delegated by the Country Director.
Support the Country Director with project budget management and development of budgets for strategic initiatives.
Coordinate budget tracking and financial oversight in collaboration with the Operations team.
Ensure compliance with Conservancy policies, financial standards, donor requirements, and legal obligations.
Review, draft, and track contracts, consultant engagements, and programmatic work plans.
Support proposal development processes, ensuring adherence to goals, timelines, and documentation requirements.
Maintain workflow systems for proposal submissions, deadlines, and supplementary materials.
Synthesize information from diverse teams to support funding proposals and donor reporting.
Handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
Occasional travel and flexibility to work long or irregular hours as needed.
Manage diversified tasks, including those outside established guidelines.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in conservation project management, business, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or related field.
Minimum 4 years’ experience in programme coordination, executive support, operations, or a similar role within a nonprofit or development environment.
Experience working with cross-functional and matrixed teams.
Experience engaging internal and external stakeholders, including partners and donors.
Experience managing or coordinating complex projects.
Analytical skills and demonstrated project management capability.
Experience supporting strategic initiatives in dynamic, unstructured environments.
Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers.
Demonstrated experience handling confidential information.
Proficiency in English; multicultural or cross-cultural work experience preferred.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in conservation, business, Finance, Policy, Resource Management, or a related field, with 7+ years’ relevant experience.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Excellent strategic communication skills, including report writing, presentation development, and meeting facilitation.
Proven ability to coordinate complex projects and synthesize information from multiple sources.
Competence in data tracking and performance monitoring to support decision-making.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Experience using project management tools and platforms.
Strong planning, problem‑solving, and analytical abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
Knowledge of evolving trends in nonprofit operations and project management.
This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
