Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The Economics Analyst is assigned to the Sri Lanka Resident Mission (SLRM) within the South Asia Department SARD. You will be based at our SLRM Office in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

You will report to the designated international staff and officer.

Your Role

The Economics Analyst will provide support for (i) economic inputs to country engagement and programming, pipeline prioritization, and policy dialogue; (ii) macroeconomic surveillance, analysis, and other analytical work; (iii) implementation of loan and TA projects under the Economic Unit; and (iv) preparation of knowledge products, management briefings, and stakeholder engagement.

You will:

• Provide economic inputs to country programming, loan and TA pipeline prioritization, and policy dialogue based on the country's macroeconomic and reform priorities.
• Support the scoping, preparation, and quality review of documents prepared as part of the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) formulation cycle, and maintain familiarity with the related processes, templates, and systems.
• Contribute to and prepare Asian Development Outlook (ADO), its Update and Supplement, and ad-hoc economic outlook updates. Maintain familiarity with the economic and social data updates by the government and other sources.
• Contribute to the maintenance and updates of macroeconomic models, databases, and country economic indicators. Support economic analyses, forecasts, macroeconomic datasheets, and regular macroeconomic surveillance.
• Support the digitalization and AI-enabled streamlining of internal macroeconomic monitoring, analytical, and reporting processes.
• Contribute to economic, thematic, and sector work and to the preparation of publications and knowledge products such as policy notes, working papers, blogs, and op-eds.
• Provide macroeconomic, policy, and coordination support to active and pipeline sovereign operations, including policy-based lending (PBL), subprogrammed reforms, and other operations.
• Support the processing and implementation of loan and TA projects across the project cycle.
• Support outreach and partner engagement, including panels, policy discussions, and engagement with government, development partners, think tanks, academia, and media.
• Prepare briefing notes, talking points, and management information notes for senior management and high-level engagements, support preparation of briefing folders and other tasks for high-level visits.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

You will need:

• Bachelor's degree in economics, business and finance, or related fields. Postgraduate degrees are an asset.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience with two full years is in macroeconomic research and data analysis.
• Familiarity with economic and social issues of the country.
• Analytical, drafting, and coordination experience, including the ability to prepare concise briefing materials and policy notes for senior management.
• Can establish and maintain productive contacts with appropriate government officials, development partners, private sector, and academic institutions; and work in a team.
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS-Office are critical. Familiarity with statistical software and interest or experience in AI-enabled analytical tools is desirable.
• Familiarity with local institutions and contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This opening is a local staff position. It is open only to nationals and permanent residents of Sri Lanka.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years, or up to the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes earlier, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff's particular blend of skills and experience for the medium-term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff's performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
