Scope of work: This position is specifically assigned for MHPSS services in Northern Shan State and he or she will directly report to Medical Doctor. He or she will be responsible for implementing MHPSS activities in IDP camps and targeted villages, building MHPSS capacity of MHPSS Volunteers /Community Health Workers of both IRC and partner organizations. He or she will also need to be involved in front line emergency responses during disaster or conflicts.

This position is only opened for Myanmar National candidates. 

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation of MHPSS activities in IDP camps and targeted villages

  • Organize and responsible for MHPSS services in camp and targeted villages.
  • Identify the main mental health and psychosocial problems in targeted camps and villages.
  • Provide awareness sessions related to mental health and psychosocial problems and support to community and volunteers from targeted IDPs camps and villages.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and psychosocial support to beneficiaries who were detected mental health problems and needed psychosocial support.
  • Facilitate and coordinate with Camp Management Committee and village leaders to get smooth program implementation activities.
  • Prepare monthly work plan of MHSS activities and MHPSS Volunteer work plan to cover targeted IDP camps and villages regularly.
  • Coordinate with partner organizations and health departments for appropriate and available referral points to get advance treatment
  • Provide MHPSS technical support to MHPSS Volunteers /Community Health Workers, to ensure in detecting MHPSS problems and improving knowledge of mental health and psychosocial first aid service.
  • Coordinate with Mobile clinic teams and clinic supervisor to integrate MHPSS component in primary health care services.
  • Submit the monthly activities and achievement report to Medical Doctor and Clinic Supervisor regularly.
  • Participate in MHPSS working group meeting with partner organizations in Township level as representative of IRC.

MHPSS Capacity building of the mobile team members and volunteers

  • Provide MHPSS awareness initial training and Psychological first aid training to MHPSS Volunteers /Community Health Workers as Biannually.
  • Organize training sessions for MHPSS Volunteers /Community Health Workers on psychosocial first aid training and MHPSS awareness session as needed.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Coordinate with M & E responsible persons to organize data entry and analysis of monthly MHPSS activities, Supportive Supervision Visits and achievements in the standard IRC - Humanitarian Health Response Database.
  • Participate in the MHPSS Supportive Supervision Visits to MHPSS Volunteers /Community Health Workers and Assessment in order to identify main mental health problems, coaching mechanism and impact among the IDP and community.
  • Assist Clinic Supervisor, Medical Doctor and coordinate with M & E officer to prepare Monthly narrative report and data report as needed.
  • Provide regular, on time and quality monthly narrative report to Project Manager.
  • Assist Project Manager on preparation of donor, IRC in-country and HQ report as needed.

Coordination & Representation

  • Assist and participate with Medical Doctor and Project Manager in coordination and relationship with health stakeholders, Health Cluster members, MOH and EHOs at township level
  • Work closely and coordinate with IRC operation and financial staff to ensure timely and complete program activities

What should you have?  

Job Requirements:

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s in psychology/ B.N.Sc or Diploma in nursing

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years related working experience in patient counselling.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Favorable to person who has previous working experience in humanitarian setting
  • Have ability and motivation to travel and work long continuous days in remote IDP camps/ remote villages in Shan States   
  • Demonstrated experiences in MHPSS (skills and competencies)
  • Demonstrated experience in building capacity, designing and delivering training.
  • Adaptable, flexible and mature in judgment
  • Good assessment, analytical, planning and reporting skills
  • Good practice on MS package
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of medical ethics and patient education and humanitarian principle

Language Skills: 

  • Good English language skill (both oral and written) and knowledge of other local Languages preferred

Working Environment: 

  • Standard Office Work environment and travel requirements.
