Resource Justice Network (RJN) is seeking an exceptional leader to help shape the next phase of its Strategy 2030 as Director of Programmes.
RJN - formerly Publish What You Pay - is the world's largest civil society network advocating for the just and equitable governance of our planet's natural resources. With over 1,000 member organisations across more than 50 countries, we work alongside communities on the frontlines of extractive and energy projects to advance justice, accountability and transparency in the oil, gas and mining industries. The Director of Programmes is a senior leadership role at the heart of delivering RJN's Strategy 2030. Sitting on the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will strengthen programme coherence, organisational effectiveness and delivery across our distributed Secretariat — ensuring our regional, policy, communications and membership functions reinforce one another to maximise collective impact. Supervising six senior programme leaders spanning our five regions and our policy and communications work, the Director will translate organisational priorities into action, support programme leaders to succeed, and nurture a collaborative, accountable and high-performing culture.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the delivery of an ambitious global strategy at a pivotal moment for the energy transition, working alongside a global movement of members and communities on the frontlines of resource governance.
We are seeking a strategic, collaborative and delivery-focused leader who can bring together programme integration, people leadership, portfolio oversight and organisational learning to strengthen RJN's impact worldwide.
The ideal candidate will:
- Bring substantial senior leadership experience (at least five years) in international development, civil society, governance, resource justice, climate, energy transition or a related field;
- Have led geographically dispersed, multicultural teams, including managing senior managers;
- Have a strong track record of managing complex programme portfolios, donor-funded initiatives and restricted budgets;
- Be an outstanding people leader, able to coach, mentor and develop high-performing, diverse teams;
- Lead through influence, building trust and collaboration across diverse teams, cultures and regions;
- Have lived and/or professional experience in one or more of RJN's five regions (Africa, Eurasia, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America), with a strong understanding of Global South civil society and movement dynamics;
- Be deeply committed to RJN's mission, values and member-centred ways of working.
Fluency in English is essential. French, Arabic, Russian or Spanish is highly desirable but not essential. The role requires occasional international travel (up to six times per year).
