Duties and Responsibilities
Purpose UNECA is seeking multiple interns with an educational background in climate change, policy, development, international relations, or related fields. The interns will support the Climate Change, Food Security & Natural Resources Division in developing and promoting climate-response policies, plans, and programmes. Additionally, the interns may assist with preparations for the upcoming COP32, which will take place in Addis Ababa. The interns will also contribute to various cross-cutting themes within the division. Duties and Responsibilities These positions are based at the main office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Successful candidates are expected to be in Addis Ababa during the internship period. The interns will report to a staff member in the CFND Division to whom they are assigned. Under their supervision, and in close collaboration with other professional staff, and depending on their level of experience and training, interns will be responsible for the following duties: - Assists in research on climate-related themes; - Assists in drafting and editing of publications, briefs and other documents; - Assists in maintaining databases; - Assists in tracking project negotiation and implementation; - Participates in the organization of meetings and events; - Assists with outreach activities; - Assists the preparation for the COP32; - Participates in the division's day-to-day operational tasks. This may include supporting the development of presentations liaison with partner organizations; - Contributes in administrative tasks as assigned; - Participates in meetings and draft meeting minutes
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
